Hawker Tempest

Postby Omag 2.0 » Fri May 07, 2004 2:18 pm

Hi all

New download, in the category "Planes that say ooooh!" ;D

The Hawker Tempest MkVI

Very nice plane - strange engine - seems to cause little blue flames.

Anyway, some viewers paying attention may notice the open Cowlflaps on take-off. Didn't know i'd opened them.

Here a really stupid question: What are those flaps and what do they do?  :-[

Nice shots of a nice aircraft.

To answer your question, cowl flaps help in engine cooling while on the ground and at low airspeeds. They produce drag so they are usually retracted at higher speeds.

Lovely Pics of a lovely aircraft!  :D

I like the subtle bounce characteristics on landing and the pilot ducks his head when the canopy opens and closes. Very good !
