Pictures were Great even if you went out with a bang

The scenario you created:
Always Always if you are going down have a controlled crash.
Unless you have the Altitude to pick your landing area...
keep your nose down...speed above stall ...and no turns.
Turns only increase the chance of a stall...you want to control the aircraft right to the end.
In my opinion the gear in your scenario would have been better left up.
You are doing something right...your practicing with a sim
