I visited last summer, a great museum. Some very rare aircraft, especially WWII from Germany and Japan......Funny though how all the helicopters are tucked into a small corner. OK, put the werido's over there, no one apart from a few anoraks will enter that area..................

One can't help thinking, looking at the F-35 powerplant, that a redesign of the concept of Bristol-Siddeley's - and later Rolls-Royce's - Pegasus, would have been a better solution. With the Pegusus, Bristol's solved the problem of fixed wing VTOL flight with only one engine in the 1950s.

Far more dead weight with the dedicated lift fan. It's like the world's gone back 60 years.

My favorite museum. If I had a dollar for every time I went there, I'd be rich. Unfortunately, with a $15 parking fee, the opposite occurs.

I was an Engine Tech on Harriers for ten years in a previous life many years ago. I stood in front of that engine last summer during my visit and though could it be any more complicated............The Pegasus...........KISS....Keep It Simple Stupid. The F-35 Powerplant.........KIII....Keept It Incomprehensibly Intricate........

At least with a Pegasus an engine failure was just that. Now there are two or three individual sections that can fail which could be instant curtains.

They are very proud of their copy of the Russian Runway Ruiner concept... I think i've seen at least one video on youtube of a Yak-141 melting asphalt.

That engine isn't even close to a RR Pegasus
