Nikon or Canon?

Postby U4EA » Fri Nov 20, 2009 10:47 pm

Wanna get some opinion from the experts here.....

Looking to move up in the world of digital photography and get an SLR type camera body.

Nikon and Canon have decent looking, almost comprable, models.

This is like asking Boeing or Airbus and Microsoft or Apple.

It really all depends on what you do. Both brands have comparable models especially at the higher end of the food chain. I personally go for Canon and similar to you have had great times with Powershot models.

I would go with what I am familiar with. Seeing you already have used Canon's line of point and shoots, upgrading to a DSLR on canon is similar.

Canon!

In general, Canon has more lenses but Nikon is supposed to do better in low light.

Either way you go remember to spend the money on the better lens, not just the best body.  8-)

Have a look (and feel if you can) at the cameras and their statistics yourself and judge by that.

Asking people for their opinons on this matter is worthless, only your opinion is worth listening to.

I would definately look at the individual cameras you are wanting to buy.

Look for cameras which are using modern lens fittings. This will mean that you'll be able to buy lenses for your camera well into the future (and if you change the body, the lenses should still fit then too)

Check deals on the cameras

Compare the models you are looking at

Pick a camera which suits your shooting style and has all the right features.

Really though, it is down to the individual camera. I don't personally like the look of most Nikon cameras, I think they can sometimes look a bit plasticy. I like the Canon build quality, but between Nikon and Canon it will be pretty close.

I've typically seen 'student photographers' with Nikon cameras, as they can be very affordable, but most expert and professional photographers I've seen tend to use Canons.

I got a Canon EOS 1000D last Christmas and I am loving it. Your best bet is to go to a photography store and try them out, or just compare the specs and reviews of the cameras you are looking at.

Welllllllll.....I would beg to differ with ya on that opinion.  There are a LOT of smart folks around here who have helped me out IMMENSELY on more than a few issues!  I value the opining and assisting here at SimV quite highly.

That aside, thanx y'all for the input thusfar!!! :)

Awesome support?  Cool!!!  That's why I've stuck with one brand of PC and peripherals.

Awesome support and great customer service is almost equally as important to me as the product quality.
