How?

Do I get that very blurred background when taking a picture?

At 4XS7 (Horseshoe Bay Airpark), I am allowed to get within eight feet of the runway, close enough to be hit by the jetwash several times, and knocked off my feet (although the tripod only fell over once, and that was luckily onto me), however, I cannot seem to get the blurred background, and my pics seem to always come out soft.

When I'm shooting, I put it on Program and put the ISO at 100...

Also, I have the following lenses:

18-55 MM  IS
55-250 MM IS
75-300 MM

And the Canon 450d (Canon Rebel XSi)

Have you tried taking the picture with macro on?  It works sometimes when I take pictures of cars. ;)

A very simple way, rather than remembering things like depth of field and other terms is the following. You are probably running lenses from about F3.5 up to about F32. The lowest numbered "F" number will produce the most amount of background blurring and the higher you go, the sharper it all gets. The other thing that comes into play is shutter speed. Reading what you are trying to photograph, aircraft at close range and moving fast, you are trying to bring a lot together at once. Fast moving subject, depth of field and lighting conditions. Quite a hard combination with moving subject. Far easer with stationary objects.

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.
