I can't possibly show you all of it so here's a few selected views from my visit yesterday. This is where I got off the bus.

I started from the main part of town & walked up the river bank towards Swanbourne Lake, a local beauty spot. This is looking back towards the town with the cathedral on the left, the castle on the right & the 14th Century church of St Nicholas between them.

Looking in the other direction towards the rolling South Downs. This is a typical sight from anywhere in the Sussex countryside.

Several miles further on, looking down on Swanbourne Lake at the way I've just come. I walked along the footpath from right to left & followed it up the hill. A Ju 88 bomber crashed in the lake in August 1940 after being shot down by Hurricanes based at RAF Tangmere just a few miles away.

This might be familiar to Dr Who fans. It was featured in one of the old series. Not part of the castle as some people could be forgiven for thinking but a folly in Arundel Park at the top of the hill. It's named Hiorne Tower after the architect who designed it for the 11th Duke of Norfolk in the 18th Century. It's reputedly haunted by a heartbroken young girl who threw herself off the top after losing her love. The monument on the left is a relic from the Crimean War brought back as a gift to the Duke by Admiral Lord Lyons.

Finally, this one was taken after a nice lunch during a walk along the opposite river bank before heading for home.
