GAAM Barnstormer Day 2008- part 3:Bird, Pietenpol

Postby beaky » Mon Jun 02, 2008 4:13 am

Another Kinner-powered beauty: the 1931 Bird biplane. I was hoping to get a ride in this one, but they recently retired it from passenger-hopping, and replaced it with... well, you'll see. ;)

A pretty snazzy panel in this Bird; I'll bet most originally came with a spring-tab ASI out on the wing strut, a wet compass, engine instruments, and maybe an altimeter.

Someday I'd love to build a Pitenpol Air Camper... not sure when this one was built, but the plans were first made available in 1932, and this one has the intended powerplant: a Ford Model T engine. Love the wacky "period" graphics on this one... ;D

BTW, that is a rare Taylor E-2 Cub in the background... we'll have a closer look at it later. ;)

A closer look at the very reliable 4-banger and its radiator...

I love the little rosebud graphic on this finely-made wood propeller.
Note the bugs on the leading edge... :D

Make that 1929. http://www.pressenter.com/~apietenp/My_ ... Page6.html

Nice little kites. They're very popular now. I wouldn't mind one myself.

I like Pietenpols generally, but some of them somehow look horrible when they are made!

This one looks very nice indeed. :)
