Very nice bunch of photos, there, Paul... very nice to see pix from you of something other than dinner (no offense to your cooking)...;D
That must've been something, to watch those  gliders stuffed with troops departing for battle... nice to see the field hasn't changed much, except for the legal nonsense. And it's great to see a strong turnout for a little local air-racing; to see that sort of thing in the USA, I'd probably have to go out West.
As for the effects of graphics compression, why not crop 'em a little first (I find I can usually afford to lose a few pixels around the edges), or just start another thread to beat the limit?

Hi Rotty...!

Now you see why I spend all my time sim flying the coast of sunny California....where all the flying fun occurs...!
Watsonville is a popular airfield for air racing, fly-ins, exhibitions, etc, and one of my many drop-off points from Santa Rosa to Los Angeles...
;D...!
...and we mustn't forget Steve McQueens one-time hang-out at Santa Paula, with his Boeing Stearman... 8)...!

Lots of fun flying in California which we often read about in our English pilot magazines... ;)...!
Fantastic scenery, catering for all sorts of GA aircraft...

Go West, young man. Go West... ;D...!
LOL...!

Cheers...!

Paul.

Or come to England. Sport/fun flying is very healthy here despite the weather. That's not as bad as some people make out either. ;)

Well, if I go West and keep going, eventually I'll make it to England... ;D
Perhaps one of these days, chaps... but this year I think I'll use my paid vacation time relaxing and flying here at home. But I never had much desire to visit the UK until I learned more about the aviation scene there; it's definitely on my list.

Hey, don't forget the East Coast of the US: plenty of nice little airports and gorgeous scenery here, too. Get the SRTM scenery for NY State and take a FS flight up in the Adirondacks sometime... or better yet, come visit, and I'll fly you up there... fancy bumping around over the mountains in a 150? ;D There's also a nude beach down at the NJ shore... wink wink, nudge nudge...500 feet AGL...:D
Re McQueen: I'd forgotten he was a pilot, Fozz- figures. As cool as he was, how could he not be? ;D
I'm reminded of the end of  The Great Escape suddenly... ;D And I realize suddenly that I don't think he ever flew in a movie... or did he? The only improvement in the remake of The Thomas Crown Affair was that they used a sailplane instead of a dune buggy in that one scene... not that the dune buggy wasn't awesome, but a Stearman would've been even better! ;D
