It is indeed a 7/8th scale 2D prop for a new film entitled "Flyboys" being made at RAF Halton. Note the lack of shadow. It's very well done & fools a lot of people.
Why didn't you stand behind it to have your picture taken "in the cockpit"?
Not possible I'm afaid. I'm not allowed on that side of the fence. It's parked on the other side of the active runway. I took this shot on full zoom.

I bet it'll look fine in the background of a film shot, but something about the nature of a digital camera, maybe, gave it away very easily. The semi-gloss surface of it reflects enough light that it looks sort of pale compared to the grass, etc. Nice cutout, though- looks like a blown-up photo mounted on board. Is it full-sized? Looks it.
