CROPPED!!!!

Postby Fly2e » Wed Nov 30, 2005 9:17 am

[center][i]I very rarely ever crop a shot.
I believe that a sceenshot should be in its true from, just as you took it.

I was about to put these in the "CYA" folder, but thought since I have been doing a little cleaning,

Nice selection Dave but First Light should feature a Spitfire (Geoffery Wellum and all that) ;) ;D

Indeed it should! I find I crop my shots quite a lot. It can help make a shot a little more interesting (angle and position wise) when not using Active Camera/Walk & Follow etc....

They look fantastic Dave, putting these cropped shots in the CYA bin would be a big mistake.

Cropping allows you to cut out unwelcome stuff that detracts from the main point and dynamics of the shot, and this is what artists and photographers do before they start work - they choose what to include.

Talking of artists, how would one feel at an art gallery if all the pics were of the same dimensions. Some of your shots here have a panoramic quality which looks far better cropped than with all the tarmac and sky otherwise in there. At other times the outside detail is stunning and it's better not to crop, of course, and there is nothing wrong with pics taken in the standard format, not suggesting that, I still use standard very often.

Cropping also lets you save to web on a higher quality level because the base shot 'weighs less', so the shot can look nicer.

Rotating a shot and cropping to get unusual angles is also fine if you don't have another option, but it does mean that the edge areas are chopped off, and a lot of the pic can be lost. The plane needs to be smaller to fit in, gets expanded after cropping and resizing and sometimes doesn't look so nice.

I usually crop to 10x15 before resizing because this is typical 'photo format' and to my eyes looks somehow 'more real' as I'm used to taking lots of photos... but your shots are all different sizes, which could look odd, but because of the spacing and presentation looks fine.

Help! No Ivan Denisovich for a while and I've got typing diarrhoea.

I hope you continue posting the odd cropped shot, they really do look nice!

I completely disagree which I'm sure will come as no surprise.

I like these shots because Dave really didn't crop his shots but actually changed aspect ratios.

Which is editing not cropping.

Editing is an art and results in different ways of viewing things........ cropping is an excuse!!!!!!!!!

In my experience (and I do have some success with graphics) the usual cropping occurs because the user can't handle his/her machine and has no idea how to set-up a flightsim.

So they remove the parts which are blurry or poorly positioned etc................................

Or, and this is the alltime greatest joke, whining and crying THE COMPRESSION IS RUINING MY SHOTS Boo Hoo Hoo

A correctly set-up sim needs no cropping and it has nothing to do with walk and follow active camera or any other add-on!!!!!

And any reference to Artists canvas size is really irrelevant

I can't think of even one painter who was known to paint a canvas and than cut out the parts they didn't like but I suppose there must have been one!!!

And I would have no problem doing some comparison shots with anyone on this forum or any other.
