I'll be interested to hear what the Japanese aviation authorities have to say about this one. Mitsubishi aircraft are famed for their reliability....

I take it that the F-2B is a licensed copy of the F16?

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

In effect, yes. I think it's fairer to say it's based on the F-16, rather than being licenced copy.

Shamelessly ripped from wiki-p:

Some differences in the F-2 from the F-16A:

   * a 25% larger wing area
   * composite materials used to reduce overall weight and radar signature
   * longer and wider nose to accommodate a phased-array radar
   * larger tailplane
   * larger air intake
   * three-piece cockpit canopy
   * capabilities for four ASM-1 or ASM-2 anti-ship missiles, four AAMs, and additional fuel tanks

:)

So you can rip off a multi million dollar fighter aircraft and not much is said, but put "Mc" in front of your name on your newly opened restaurant and you will get hit by a law suit faster than the top speed of said fighter ;D ;D

Lockheed helped Mitsubishi develop the F-2 as a highly modified F-16.

Or the greatest one way "exchange" of information when the US delegation visited Miles to view the M.52...

...and then refused a reciprocal visit...

...then designed the X-1! ;D
