No need to worry. The first RAAF C-17 hadn't flown as of 10 days ago, and the C-17 at the show is a USAF one - seemingly a reasonably regular visitor. :)

USAF or RAAF a C-17 is a C-17 and its RARE.

Good morning folks. :)

I would have to say the rarest aircraft I have  seen as they say there are none in existence today is the Avro Arrow.
I saw the same Arrow twice, once when it made the only landing away from Malton Airport and landed at the Royal Canadian Air Force Station Trenton.

I shall say no more as those men in black might come and get me.   :P   :-X

The rarest aircraft I have ever flown would have to be the Tiger Moth.  :)
Sometimes when I close my eyes I can still hear the pitch of those wires singing to me. ;)

The Fleet Canuck, Stearman, Auster and Piper J3 Cub are also there as rare aircraft I have either owned or flew over the years.

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

I would have said the Fleet Canuck was rarer than the Tiggie Moth?

As for the Arrow, you can't really get rarer than that, other than things such as the Brabazon.

Think it depends where you are. The good old Tiger has always been a common enough sight around these parts & there are still plenty of them flying now. The comments in this thread are fascinating & the definiton of 'rare' obviously depends on your age & where you live.

Agreed although I saw the Brabazon flying along the coast once, not far from where I'm sitting now. I don't know the exact date but I must have been about 8 or 9 years old at the time. 8) ;)

A Beverley landed at Shoreham once. I think it was the biggest aircraft ever to land there & this was before the hard runway was built. I was promised a flight on it but got unceremoniously thrown off when they discovered it was grossly overloaded just before take off. ::) :-[

PS. Just as well as there would probably have been a terrible disaster. :o

There are some photos of the Beverley in the photos section if you look hard enough (or search).

As I said earlier Doug, I'll see your CF-105 and raise you an FD-2........

Interesting. May I ask where you saw the FD2?

Well from my little experience and perspective it would have to be the Romanian Mig 21s or the V22 Osprey.

Some rare ones are the bbmf lancaster, fairey swordfish, chipmunk, anything from ww2 is pretty rare down in these parts but the most rare has got to be the Seahawk.
The seahawk flys down at RNAS Culdrose (aka hms seahawk!) every year and indeed there is the old fueselage of one near the entrance. As far as i know the one that is left flying is the only one airworthy in the world. It doesn't get much rarer than that!!
