I read that last week. Didn't know whether to believe it or not. :-/

It's not the first time this is supposed to have happened. http://www.snopes.com/travel/airline/fireaxe.asp

Its a pretty common thing on CRJ's. The doors are known to get stuck pretty often, and this was just a slightly more serious case, where they couldn't get the door to open atall, simple solution, and used by many CRJ pilots. Take the door of the hinges, it's what the door is designed to do in an emergency, so not a problem and they could just slip it back on. Bear in mind, there were two personell in the flightdeck when it happened, the Captain and a steward/ess, which it following FAA law, the passenger's were in no real danger atall. Just media hype.

So what's all this I hear about inflight security then? I thought the cockpit door was supposed to be terrorist-proof. ::)

So in an emergency the door comes off the hinges by itself so it could become a projectile inside the cabin?
