Snakes on a plane. what would you do?

Postby RitterKreuz » Tue Aug 22, 2006 1:07 am

OK i havnt seen this SNAKES ON A PLANE movie.... but if you were the pilot of an airliner upon which hundreds of snakes escaped containment and infested the cabin

what would you do???

an old timer from Kentucky once told me about what the locals refer to as a "Snake line". Its the elevation on the mountain above which snakes are unable to survive. also because they are cold blooded they require warm temperatures SOOOO...

My plan of action would be - climb to about 12,000 feet where the outside air temp would be right around 52 degrees, switch the air conditioning to its coldest setting, hit the cabin pressure dump switch, drop the oxygen masks and wait it out. the passengers and crew would be pretty cold, but capable of making it through for quite a while at 12,000 feet!!

then i would find a couple of brave volunteers to gather up the snakes while wearing a portable oxygen bottle. the snakes that arnt dead would be so cold that they would be very slow moving and unable to resist. the snakes could then be gathered up and placed into several large trash bags or boxes and stored in the lavatory until landing cold be made at which point animal control would assume command of the situation and i can go home to enjoy my lovely wife serving me little teeny tiny chicken wings and goblet after goblet of beer.

hooray! situation solved - snakes on a plane movie debunked!

well? what would you have done?

I'd grab a knife and fork and go for it as I've always wanted to try snake for dinner ;D

I only see a couple of problems. Air conditioning set to it's coldest setting would produce about 18 degrees C and O2 masks don't generally drop until 14000 feet and if the pilots are fighting of snakes, maybe hitting the manual override would not be on their list of priorities ;D

So, turn the heat right up and then get the stewardesses to knock up come chicken sandwiches:D

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

good point matt but check this out...

a depressurized airplane would get cold enough to frost the windows over depending on altitude and OAT - besides the temp wouldnt be what did the snakes in - the low pressure would be the problem for them. The "rubber jungle" in my plane is not automated so it can be activated manually at any altitude. Humans are capanle of living at much higher altitudes than snakes are so snakes dead - passengers living.

the cabin pressure dump switch in the plane i fly is nearly directly in front of my face and would only take a second or two to switch to "dump".

and i know of only one way a snake could enter the cockpit from the cabin and that is through one of three circulation vents about 6 or 7 inches across. of course they would have to be able to get past the recirc fans first :) and then find their way past the 3/4 inch metal screens.

I would make sure the cockpit door is closed and securely locked, and then land.  Who cares about the passengers ::)

I would walk out of the theater, dissatisfied, and having lost respect for Samuel Jackson :P

As the captain of the aircraft your first priority should be the safety of the passengers.........:P.....;)

Its not very safe for the passengers if the pilots get eaten by snakes.

snakes on a plane has inspired me to think of a few more uncreative titles for past movies

Jason - "Knife wielding maniac in a hockey mask"

Nightmare on Elm Street - "Burned guy with knife fingers"

childsplay - "a doll that kills people"

Snakes ON a plane wouldn't be a problem at all.  Snakes IN a plane, well that's another matter all together.  I think the FAA needs to do a study...
