Kai Tak?

Postby Paul2k12 » Sat Mar 29, 2003 12:06 pm

Hello,

Just yesterday I found a file that enables you to fly to and from Kai Tak.

Just wondering do any of you fly there at all?

Just curious, off to try and fly an approach to runway 13  ;D!

Hi Paul, I do Kai Tak quite a bit!
Great news, Roger "Rollerball" Mole is busy developing a new improved version of his Kai Tak add-on. I've seen some screenies, and I can't wait!
Enjoy 13.

Hi Paul, Mark.

Yup, I re-opened  Kai Tak in FS2002 a while ago and you can fly with full navaids etc, but I don't think you'll find a file for the IGS landing system for Rwy 13. I've done one which works great but I'm keeping it back until I can release my new scenery in one go (as suggested here on the forum).

The scenery's coming on fine, but slowly due to lack of time. I spent all this wek trying to make my new ramp lights that I made work properly - ie turn off just after dawn on on just before dusk. Same as Graham Oxtoby's ramp lights for anyone who knows.

What a bummer!! No luck. But there are some very clever guys out there. Posted a message on the Avsim scenery forum (sorry Pete!) where a lot of real experts hang out a lot. Within a few minutes Arno from the Netherlands group put me right.

This is the daytime view across my main apron.

Magic! I love it. There are ALWAYS so many helpful people who can give you the help you need in this community that your faith in human nature can't help be boosted even if you've been on the receiving end a bit like I have this week!

Roger that is looking totally AWESOME! I can't wait for it to be released, I've got some really silly stunts in mind!

;D

And I can't wait to see those, you mad-man!

But tell you what, when I feel a bit cheesed off, I crank the vis down to 2 miles, cloud to 7/8 at 1500-2000 in thunderstorm at dusk with wind at something like 20 gusting 30 at 160 deg (ie way below the real life mins)

Then I load my saved flight coming into Kai Tak at 10000 from the north. I've got the charts that I'm gonna include in my package and I fly a descending hold by the book over Cheung Chau for an approach on the IGS via the chequerboard to land on 13.

This is the simplified chart from Mark 'Dark Moment' Beaumont's www.swiremariners.com site

It's really challenging (that's quite a cross wind) and very easy to miss. You have to concentrate and by the end of it, if you land OK (any landing that you can taxy away from is OK!) you know all's right with the world after all. If you do miss and go around, you're looking at at least 30 - 40 mins flying!

Just looking forward to finishing the scenery so I can share it with everyone.

Roger

I've been thinking folks.

Later this week (Thursday to be precise) I'm off to Princeton NJ for a 2 1/2 week family holiday so no work will be done. Then I'll have to catch up with work things and stuff when I get back. Result - more delay.

I'm thinking about tidying up what I've got - it's still missing a lot of planned stuff like replacement terminals that I'm working on, the Flying Club, the Government Flying Service etc - and issuing it so that at least people can use the IGS and stuff.

Otherwise I could just issue a very small zip with the IGS system and a chequerboard which people could combine with my original (now not very good!) release or Thomas Kwong's FS2000 scenery which with GREAT respect to Thomas, I think my new scenery will improve on.

What do you think. Let me know.

Roger

BTW

Thomas is working on a new Chep Lap Kok (is that right?) which I understand really IS going to be awesome.

Hi Roger. As there seems to be a demand for it you could post what you have as a stop-gap until the final version is finished. I would suggest you ask Pete & other webmasters where it's uploaded to remove the temp version when the latest one is ready. This is unfortunately not possible with some sites which post stuff without permission & refuse to remove it.

PS. You have all the qualifications to become a member of my club. No registration is necessary, just the right frame of mind.  ;D
Have a good holiday.  ;)

Personally Roger I'd be prepared to wait. Anticipation always makes things taste better if you know what I mean.

Thanks for that Mark. I've thought about it and I think I'll go for the compromise by issuing a small zip containing the IGS instrument approach system and a checkerboard.

Then people have 2 choices - they can add just the IGS to Thomas's FS2000 scenery that's already out there to make it work properly in FS2002 (I think it already contains a checkerboard and I've tested my IGS with it already) OR they can add both items to my existing (ah-hem crappy!) Kai Tak.

But I think I'll hold my full scenery back until it's complete.

D'ya think that's a good idea?

Hi

Rollerball I think it would be a good idea to wait until its completely finished.

I use your existing scenery and think its really good so any improvement would be even better.

Keep up the good work ;),
