does anyone know how to write a country song? why am I asking... I have the talent to sing but that is just my opinion, no one has really ever heard me sing so this is why I'm asking. Also I like music a lot that's another reason why I'm asking the question (does anyone know how to write a country song)

You just have to know the basic themes (Link):

Country music revolves around three themes:

    * My girlfriend/man left me
    * I have a gun
    * I am going to shoot my girlfriend/man

Later variations and extensions on the themes have appeared (the government is trying to take my gun, the government arrested me for shooting my girlfriend/man and is how going to execute me and/or take my gun, the government took my girlfriend/man away from me and I've lost my gun, etc.)

Other topics are sometimes woven around this main theme, like:

    * Cowboys are awesome
    * Commies shot my legs off
    * Drinking
    * My woman is too fat
    * Country music is awesome
    * Country music used to be awesome until the commies ruined it and shot my legs off.

It helps to have a dog and a truck in there.

[color=#000000]To be the serious side of this discussion, there is no prerequisite, but it is likely most hits did have some of the mentioned topics. I'm sure I could find a vast number of tunes that did not mention any of the above, yet did well.

As to knowing how to, I can't say that I do. But I have written a few. I even sent some to publishers in Nashville a few years ago, but without any luck. I did get some positive feedback from a couple of publishers who said it was not what they were looking for at the time, but to keep sending material. Based on my experiences and knowledge, I would say you almost HAVE to go to Nashville and go door to door. Some people did it for years and never got past the lobby. Due to life, I was unable to continue and lost interest after a while. I still write, but no longer try to get anything published. I do have a couple that I think would do well if recorded by a known or up and coming artist. Having said all that, I have always heard, not that it's true mind you, but "you have to have lived it". My advice to a wannabe songwriter, is to buy a book, tape, or DVD on the subject by someone that has 'made' it. There are several out there. And join NSAI, Nashville Songwriters Association International. I was a member for a couple of years and they offer a lot of free services and put on clinics every year. If someone is serious about it, it is well worth joining.

The perfect country-western song

Well, a friend of mine named Steve Goodman wrote that song
And he told me it was the perfect country-western song
I wrote him back a letter and told him it was NOT the perfect country-western song because he hadn't said anything at all about
mama, or trains, or trucks, or prison, or gettin' drunk.
Well, he sat down and wrote another verse to the song and he sent it to me
And after reading it, I realized that my friend had written the perfect country-western song.
And I felt obliged to include it on this album. The last verse goes like this here:

Well, I was drunk the day my Mom got outta prison.
And I went to pick her up in the rain.
But, before I could get to the station in my pickup truck
She got runned over by a damned old train.

Well I'm not claiming to be an expert on songwriting, because frankly I'm not. However, my friend and I are working on a few songs, and we've found that a lot of it is life experience and emotions felt...sometimes it helps to "just write" and see what comes out.

Most rock music has country roots. I don't believe you never play any country songs.

Most of my music I play is based on the sequence of notes written by the Masters...J. S. Bach and his forebears....which is now converted into (Western) Rock Music, etc... ...!

Pachebel's "Canon"...."Hotel California"!......!
