We obviously were sent in different directions after Lackland.True Story: With the exception of basic training on every base or TDY assignment I was ever at I was housed where there was a bar just across the street.

(The new) "Milky" Bomb Plot was located at a remote end of the island: the nearest mess was through some jungle and across the old deserted WW2 airfields -- soft drinks, coffee or milk; I don't care much for alcohol-containing drinks so, while bunked at Andersen, I never visited the bar that was some distance across the base -- closest thing to an extreme hang-over was following the typhoon (I wound up in traction from a 'locked' neck; battery acid and, during sunnier days, the major sunburn wasn't all fun, either.
The only place I'd have a (as in one) 14-16oz WVC (whiskey/vodka/CocaCola) was once a weekend at Det.10's Rec Hall (we'd taken over some of the Navy's old WW2 buildings in Nebraska) which was about a mile or two from the site and six or seven from quarters.8-)
