The old girl and I stopped into one of the local bugsmasher fields we frequent for a mug of tea and a chin wag.
You folks know me, the old girl does most of the chin wagging, I only chew the rag when spoken too. ;D
Well a young aviator dropped in who frequents the spot once or twice a week and he had to have all eight of us walk out and look at his new car. He is still in school, has a private licence and bums rides in aircraft whenever he can. Works in a grocery store part time after school and seems like a good lad.
I do believe he wants to be a teacher.
Well the first words out of most of our mouths when we saw this 2010 abortion he called a car was "WOW".
I won't say what make it was but it was a foreign born thing to Canada and had an eight inch ground clearance.
The vehicle only had two seats and the guages we were told can be changed to different colours. Well diddly do, so can mine in the Land Rover, clean and dirty.
The spoiler on the rear was about the size of a Cessna 140s elevator and the vehicle had a two tone flake paint scheme which in the sunlight one needs a pair of sun glasses to look at. He will spend a week cleaning the four rims and tires and they looked like something from the dirty 30s.
The engine, well I won't even go there, just hope he don't wrap himself around a tree.
We were told the thing was just past $44,000.00, yup.
His insurance is very expensive as he is only eighteen.
So most folks smiled and lied through their teeth and said they liked it and what a nice looking car.
Me, no way, I asked him when we got inside why he didn't buy a used pick-up truck like most of the young lads around and he could have also bought a good Cessna 140, 150, 152 or a good Piper 140 or any number of bugsmashers and still been under the $44,000.00.
He bought this abortion because some of his friends have sporty cars and they were talking about it during a spare class. He went into the car dealership to look and the next thing he knew the salesman had done everything for him including arranging financing and insurance. Highly illegal and unethical in Canada I believe.
He was told he now has a credit rating and I said yes and an empty wallet. (I thought about the empty wallet matching his empty head but kept my mouth shut because the old girl was already glaring at me).
Well we said our niceties, left and I chewed about that all the way home.
The old girl, well she said I hope I don't get involved if any of the grandchildren want to buy something they want.
Me, me, me get involved, really?
Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug
