I receive the flu shot every year since I am work in emergency services.  I have never had any problems with the shot.

As for this "outbreak", I don't know if this is the one, but I do believe we are overdue for a mass disease.  It is just like deer, when an area is overcrowded, disease will help thin our the herd.  Our planet is becoming overcrowded and will thin it out.  Sounds cold hearted, but I simply take a scientific view of it all.  The more the medical world tries to eliminate disease, the worst the diseases will get.

I for one belive the only reason they push flu shots is extra money the drug companys take out of peoples pockets every year, plus I don't trust them when it comes to having someTHING injected into my body. And with the way things are going in this world, I belive one day there going to screw up the formula and kill 1,000's of people! Case in piont; 21 polo horses where killed because the socalled vitamin suplament that they were given was mixed wrong, just a matter of time before humans die because because of a F&@$up in pharmacticals!

FROM Wikapedia:
1976 U.S. outbreak
On February 5, 1976, an army recruit at Fort Dix said he felt tired and weak. He died the next day and four of his fellow soldiers were later hospitalized. Two weeks after his death, health officials announced that swine flu was the cause of death and that this strain of flu appeared to be closely related to the strain involved in the 1918 flu pandemic. Alarmed public-health officials decided that action must be taken to head off another major pandemic, and they urged President Gerald Ford that every person in the U.S. be vaccinated for the disease.[34] The vaccination program was plagued by delays and public relations problems, but about 24% of the population had been vaccinated by the time the program was canceled.

Climbing on the soapbox  ::) ..........

I am thinking that this whole flap is a case of mass hysteria fueled by people who think that they can and should and must have the RIGHT to be protected from every possible bad thing that could ever happen to them.

Yes, this has the potential to become a mess.  Every day there are TONS of things that could become a real mess in the world.

Did you know that the Bubonic Plague still is around?  The American southwest is a hotbed.  Every year, a few people contract it.  A few die.  THAT has the potential to be a real mess.  But you don't hear much about it.  That's because we now have some teratments that tend to work.  And only a few poeple die each year out of a huge population.

Look at the worldwide NORMAL deaths from "run-of-the-mill" influenza that happen EVERY SINGLE YEAR.  It is HUGE.  Tens of thousands.  But THAT does not cause this "Oh my god the sky is falling" response.  Because it is consdered a "normal occurance".

Apparently the drug Tamiflu is effective on this one.  In 4-6 months the'll hav a vaccine for it.  So far, very few people have dies out of an enormous world population.

Yes, it is terrible if YOU are the one to get sick and die.  But if that possiblity bothers you too much, seal yourself in a plastic baggie and go crawl in a cave and hide.

To me, this appears to be a massive overreaction, and a HUGE portion of it is caused, not by the "Swine Flu", but by the modern day MEDIA HYPE!!!!!  Bad news is good news.

Off the soapbox.   :-[

best,

John, I totally agree....and all the news companies are jumping on the bandwagon creating mass hysteria....ironic considering their message not to panic....

Yesterday on BBC breakfast they interviewed a man who had come back from Mexico with a cold...what was his input?....I'm feeling better today....

This morning someone texted in syaing whether they should still fly to Cyprus or not??? WTF  ;D ;D ;D

Well I should start worrying about this because a few people were "said" to have the swine flu in Pittsburg, CA which is about 15 mins from me.

Also I read today the first U.S. death from the swine flu was in Texas today.  :-[

According to the news, it seems there are half a dozen probable cases here in Washington, including one here in the Spokane area. But what I really want to know is, what's the difference between the regular flu, and this 'swine flu'...?

Bacon.   ;D

The only difference that I know of, is that no one is immune to the swine version, according to the local news.  But then again, my sources are the news, so who knows if it's true  ;)

There is no question that there will be a lot more cases of this flu.  And a lot more deaths.   Because, of course, it is THE FLU.  Every year there are different flu virus permutations that hit the world. Every year there are hundreds of thousands of people who GET the flu and tens of thousands of DEATHS from influenza.

A good portion of this is MEDIA HYPE and the impact of the power of the 24 hour news cycle and the internet.  Bad news is good news.   "Gotta' fill the time slots with something.....find me a new angle Bob".   This whole thing is verging on MASS HYSTERIA already, and, in the USA... there are only about 100 confirmed cases.

Pork SALES are apparently plummeting.  For god's sake, you can't get swine flu from eating pork!!!!!!  People are just panicking.

Yes, it has the optential to be bad.  But is just that; potential.  EVERY new influenza that crops up, and ther is a new one or two EVERY YEAR, has that potential.

Jeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzzz...................
