Yes, there you are standing in the queue and your hemorrhoids start to give you a bad time. Security notices your odd posture and surreptitious obsession with your rear and you are whipped of for said search..................still at least they will get a good scratching giving you a moments relief

its a farce and a cash cow, mainly because of the staff they hire to do it. Its designed to keep the fear going, which keeps the money flowing

They have to put on a show and try to make a difference, but the bottom line is, we are not getting what we pay for in that system and never will they way it is being managed.

Considering all the new scrutiny we're going through at the airports since 9/11, I have a hard time understanding how security was better 10 or 20 years ago.  But maybe I'm just missing something.   :-?

It was nearly 20 years ago (Dec 21, 1988) when Pan Am flight 103 exploded over Lockerbie, Scotland.

I've mostly fly commercially while in uniform, and it's funny how security finds it annoying that it takes me another minute or two to take my combat boots off and on, When it's obvious that i'm in the military. I wish we didn't have to, but oh well.

Other then that, airline personell are always friendly towards me. I often wonder how much different it would be if I flew in civilian clothes? I probably would get bumped to earlier flights, and moved to Business or First class

I almost always flew in civies. I can remember only once when I wore my uniform, flying home during Christmas of 1985. I never noticed any difference in treatment at airports.
 It was actually required at that time that we not wear uniforms, not carry military ID, and let our hair grow out while traveling overseas on job-related duties.

If I remember correctly the bomb was in a suitcase in the baggage hold. The person that planted it wasn't aboard the plane so no amount of personal security checks at the airport would have prevented it.

PS. If the flight had been on time the bomb would have exploded over the Atlantic. It's very likely that the cause would never have been established.
