I'm glad I didn't bid in that ebay auction to spend $100,000 to spend three days as a sailor.
What they really need to do now is get lots of tugs. More than five, for sure, to heave it out of where it's stuck, then they can [hopefully] get the Intrepid back on course. (Of course, this would be a risky manoeuver and may damage the Intrepid, but isn't it a little embarrassing for a ship that survived 5 kamikaze attacks to get bogged down in a river?)
How did they get it in there in the first place?
It was decommisioned in Rhode Island in 1974, and eventually was towed to NYC (probably with seagoing Navy tugs), where it opened as a museum in 1982.
