It might be that we have nothing to offer any one who comes to this planet. But how are they going to know intill they've arrived?

I think it's sheer arrogance to imagine that other life forms would come here in the first place, even if they could survive in our atmosphere. Anyone would think that the universe revolves around our insignificant little planet. ::) :P

Think I understand what you're getting at but presumably if something travelled faster than light nobody could possibly see it.

Well, there are plenty of things which travel close to the speed of light that we can't see, but we do know about because of the way they interact with other particles.  If we've totally missed some super fact object it's either because we're not looking in the right places hard enough, or because it doesn't interact with any other particle.  If we're just not looking hard enough (and there are TONS of very sophisticated scientific instruments doing nothing but looking for strange stuff like that) then it's only a matter of time and technology.  But I still think it unlikely.

If such an object doesn't interact with any other particle (exerts no force, for example) then that object essentially doesn't exist.  (Existance being the collection of things which ARE, and they all follow some form of cause and effect.  Something which doesn't have any property of cause and effect doesn't have any physical properties at all and therefore just doesn't exist).  If something doesn't exist then it doesn't exist and therefore isn't traveling faster than the speed of light.

What gets me is the way Hollywood believe that only America is worth visiting.... hello? There is more to this planet than California and kids hanging out with creatures with a face like a friendly dog-turd ;D
Mind you if an alien visited the following all kinds of things could happen;
Glasgow - mugged!
Nottingham - shot!
Hungary - pickled in the local alcohol (Will, Dave and Kevin know what I'm talking about)
France - cooked in a white wine sauce
Spain - run over by a bull
Columbia - higher than his spaceship due to a white powder
Czech Rep. - lying drunk on a pavement in Prague (best way I've found... and the best beer)
Ireland - assaulted by Father Jack for not having a drink with him
Italy - choked to death on pasta and tomatoes
Greece - blinded by drinking Ouzo

We refuse to solve our own problems with war, famine, overpopulation, etc, even though it is within our grasp to do so.

yep, so im going to do the right thing and give money to the needy. Nahh, too lazy. And that is the problem.

Now, after my $0.02, lets get back to the ET topic  ;)

My opinion on the matter: no fricking idea. Im too young to worry about this stuff  ;)

..and I'm much too old to take any interest in it....

...72... ;)...!

I'm more concerned that I may have to go shopping to Sainsbury's in the pouring rain on my motor-bike, than worrying about Alien visitations, or day trips to far away Galaxies... ;)...!

Life is much too short for fantasising*....
...trust me... ;D...!

Paul...watching the sky........for rain...... ;)....!

*..did someone mention the Moon Landings...?

...oooops....;)...!!

Ok then. So if Hagar is much to young to worry about it, and Fozzer is much to old. Then presumably around the age of 67/68 you suddenly have all the thoughts and worries about extra terrestrials thrust upon you.

Correct? :)

A wee bit Kevin ;D
Of course we must never forget there is plenty of evidence for aliens. Look at Tyler (below) I mean he lives next door to Thermoman and has been on Mars, Venus and Jupiter (apparently they speak French)...

Very true, Woody...!

I was perfectly happy looking at the approaching storm clouds and worrying about getting me and my trusty motor-bike wet en-route to Sainsbury's and back again with my daily tasty food luxuries, until our dear Kevin upset my daily routine by suggesting Alien Visitations and amazing high speed Space Travel exceeding the speed of light....:o...!
....arse...>:(...!

I am sure our dear Kevin is living on a different Planet to your dear old Fozzer...;)...!

I've got it!

Kevin has been abducted by aliens who are now forcing him to write things on the internet denying their existance! ;D

Perhaps they, the ET's, aren't interested in us at all. Perhaps they're just stopping off for a quick nosh.
