Lame claims

Do the world a favour and shoot a claims lawyer today.... oh and his pathetic excuse for a human being client ;D

A man who tried to sue a local council after he soiled his trousers tops a list of spurious public liability claims which cost local government and insurance companies an estimated

There's people making a very good living out of this. It might be an idea to fine the legal 'brains' bringing these cases a large amount for wasting the court's time. I reckon the number of these claims would drop considerably. ;)

These and other claims are why ......A. Insurance premiums are so high and... B. Why Council tax is high also.

I met a woman a couple of years ago who is one of the Legal Team, for the Local Council, who has to deal with these spurious claims. As she pointed out, the people who make these stupid claims, apart from making themselves look stupid,  have managed to add 2-5% to the Council tax bill just to pay her and seveal other lawyers wages. They have also made it incredibly hard for people with genuine claims to get recompence as all claims have to be delt with in order of being received and as there are so many some genuine ones slip through the net.

It's kind of like the legal form of 'modern art'! I mean, anyone can say the council was to blame because they tripped over a weed that shouldn't have been there, and anyone can throw some green paint at a wall and say it's a landscape! They're just stupid ways of gaining a quick buck.

These people are presumably taxpayers so what they don't seem to realise is that they're actually suing themselves. ::)

If they happen to win the case, by the time their legal representatives (who usually persuaded them to sue in the first place) have grabbed their share there won't be much left. I doubt that many of these people get much out of it at all.

That's more than likely true, but I doubt the people who are making these outrageous claims think through what they are trying to do, and probably don't have the brain capacity to do so, either. In their eyes it's just $$$ ::)

Over here in Phoenix like every other commercial is an "Accident Lawyer" commercial or one in particular who advertises "Have you been accused of a serious crime?" Basially they are getting people who commit crimes a way out. If you were stopped and arrested for DUI, hello? Chances are you were probably drunk or maybe a 'little tipsy' and ere rightly arrested. Another one is a lady who says her son was accused of arson and she "didn't" want her little boy to go to jail. Some people. I don't know if it's the same in other countries, but IMHO lawyers do more harm than good to society.

Get a rope! ;D

a shoplifter who sued because she fell down stairs while running from the scene of a crime

This is why we are not allowed to stop anyone shoplifting. Not for our safety but the simple fact you could find yourself sued for assualt ::)

Another real-world story:

I know somone who was working in a bakery.  She looks up and sees a woman slip and fall in front of her door.  The woman insists she's fine, though there seems to be no ice in front of the door and they can't figure out how she slipped.  So they called an ambulance (despite the woman continuing to insist she was fine).  When the ambulance got there, the paramedics see her and go "oh no, not her again".

Apparently, the company was saved the hassle of a lawsuit as this woman is known for shaking down businesses by slipping and falling in front of them.

Not too long ago I saw one of those "Caught on Video" shows about this. I guess it's a pretty big scam all over the country. The 'slip and fall' scam it's called. ::)

Was the dead badger exhibited in the courtroom?
:P
"Yes, it is extremely malorodous, ladies and gentlemen, but as you can see, it is also extremely startling..."
:D  For some reason I find that very amusing: a judge sitting listening to how a "bin man" (that'd be a "garbage man", right?) was permanently harmed by the shock of being startled by a dead badger. In New York, a sanitation worker would likely smile and take it home to have a hat made out of it. New York's trash-haulers suffer a higher on-the-job attrition rate than the NYPD, and that includes being shot at. They've seen it all.

Trash collection is not for the faint-hearted; cheating on your girlfriend is to be done at your own peril, and for God's sake, if you crap your pants, keep it to yourself!!
