Bordering Cat 5!

Postby Fly2e » Wed Sep 21, 2005 3:04 pm

Well the gulf is preparing itself again for a real bad storm.

Hurricane Rita is expected to make landfall between Corpus Christie & Galveston, Texas sometime Friday morning.
It is a Category 4 right now but is bordering on a Category 5!  :o

im not doin it this time. you know what, i sympathize for the ones who cant get out, becuase of whatever reason, but i could give a rat's ass about people who will "ride the storm out." thats complete bull. there is no need to risk your life to save your TV. the jeff foxworthy shirts are NOT THAT VALUABLE. (yes pulled from Mencia). im just gettin sick of thosepeople, and that prevents me from giving money, cause i don't know where it'll go.

Mandatory Evacuation?  Not in houston.  In fact, the latest projections show it missing us by a lot.  I am not worried.  We aren't leaving, or stocking up.  All we are gonna do is get flashlights together, probably go out tomorrow to get some cat and dog food for our pets (which we needed anyways)

School has been closed for tomorrow and friday.

Jakemaster, don't be too confident that you won't get hit. Look what happened back in '92 with Andrew. People thought it was going one way, but things turned for the worse and Miami was riddled with homes that looked like toothpicks.

Since then, the people of Florida have learned a vital lesson: Don't take any chances when it comes to hurricanes. Mother Nature loves to be unpredictable.

Here we go again :-/  Weather must be trying to tell us something :-X

I would be carefull in following the weather predictions...If i remember right Katrina's origional path was supposed to be a weak hurricane heading right up Florida's west coast...and look what happened :-/

Then again this is coming from someone who lives in Indiana...where if you want to know the weather just look outside ::)  Do i trust the weather people...I think not :P

well, we could get hit, but the damage wont be anywhere as bad as in new orleans.  First of all, we are above sea level (barely), second, we are fifty miles inland, and finally, we have a bayou system that will help to aleviate flooding.

I and my family are aware of the dangers we face by staying.  We have plenter of rooms in our house to go to if needed, we have enough food and water to last a while.  We are going to move all of our loose stuff out of the backyard, and try and keep safe.  The hurricane will hit in the middle of the night, so I will probably sleep in a different room because the room that I sleep in, the bed is right under 3 large windows.  I will probably make sure that my cat is safe, that I know where she is at night, since she'll probably be hiding. We will probably put my dog in my parents room with them because in our main entrance way, whe have huge windows, and a chandelier, and in the unlikely event that wind bl0ows out the windows, my dog would need to be pretty far away.

So wish me the best of luck that NOTHING happens, and I will keep you updated as long as we have power.

Well, good luck Jake.

Another thing. Aren't there oil refineries in or near the coast of Texas? If those get hit, get ready for:

1. Lost jobs
2. Higher Unemployment
3. Higher gas prices
4. Lower economy
5. Mucho dineros in damages
6. Insurance companies being driven up the wall by a ton of claims

Must I go on?

HURRICANE RITA TROPICAL CYCLONE UPDATE
NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL
650 PM CDT WED SEP 21 2005

...RITA BECOMES THE THIRD MOST INTENSE HURRICANE ON RECORD...

DROPSONDE DATA FROM AN AIR FORCE RESERVE UNIT RECONNAISSANCE
AIRCRAFT AT 623 PM CDT...2323Z...INDICATED THE CENTRAL PRESSURE HAS
FALLEN TO BELOW 899 MB...OR 26.55 INCHES. THE DROPSONDE INSTRUMENT
MEASURED 32 KT/35 MPH WINDS AT THE SURFACE...WHICH MEANS IT LIKELY
DID NOT RECORD THE LOWEST PRESSURE IN THE EYE OF RITA. THE CENTRAL
PRESSURE IS PROBABLY AT LEAST AS LOW AS 898 MB...AND PERHAPS EVEN
LOWER. FOR OFFICIAL PURPOSES... A PRESSURE OF 898 MB IS ASSUMED...
WHICH NOW MAKES RITA THE THIRD MOST INTENSE HURRICANE IN TERMS OF
PRESSURE IN THE ATLANTIC BASIN. SOME ADDITIONAL DEEPENING AND
INTENSIFICATION IS POSSIBLE FOR THE NEXT 12 HOURS OR SO.

RITA CURRENTLY RANKS BEHIND HURRICANE GILBERT IN 1988 WITH 888 MB
AND THE 1935 LABOR DAY HURRICANE WITH 892 MB.

175 MPH
