Computers are the Devil!

Postby Scorpiоn » Fri Apr 15, 2005 4:49 am

A brief, if somewhat uninteresting topic...  big surprise!

It's standard practice for me to slap up a quick playlist in Windows Media Player, log off and just listen to the music whilst I go to sleep, however, my mother has always said it's not good to be around computers and other electronics for a long time, because they mess with your "aurora*".  Have y'all heard of things like this?  I generally don't pay much attention to all the oogada-boogada voodoo fizziks, but I was just curious to see what y'all have heard.

*As far as I can figure, an "aurora" is your spiritual and emotional field.  If it were truly to exist, I suppose your could explain it by proposing you have an ambient electical field around your body, and the patterns and intensity of this field could dictate your emotions and such.  (My mom can spew forth a lot of spirtual stuff (aurora, vibes, etc.), but she's always at odds on how to explain it!) ::)

Ive never heard of that. I sit in front of a computer all day long, and the only effect it has on me is that I dont feel like useing my PC at home after work.

I think that's 'Aura' and the only effect it's had on me so far is to pi$$ my wife off.  ;)

I think people that talk about auras and transcendental mediwhatthehell etc are hippy wannabes and should be force fed reality for the good of their mental health ;)
Oddly enough my parents were hippies, I've gone to the other end of the scale. They freaked when they found out I'd signed-up and kicked me out of home 8)

Yup to me too, but try explaining that you can't plaster a corner without using a galvanised steel support to form and strengthen it because the person in question is 'worried' about it focusing 'negative' energy in her house. We walked away from this one, fast.

Well I am not going to say:

hey your mother is wrong don't listen to her!

because you have to understand that some people belive in aura and some don't. So the best I can tell you is, if you have been raised that way and you truly believe it then I would suggest you listen to your mom. :)

I think she means "aura", and there's something to that idea, because the human body does have an electromagnetic field (do an image search sometime under "Kirlian photograph" to see what I mean), and I suppose it can be disturbed or manipulated. And the body clearly reacts to, and influences, your emotional state- nothing mumbo-jumbo about that. However, I lean towards scientists' interpretations of such phenomena, as opposed to those who like neat tidy cosmic simplistic explanations ("and would you like to buy a crystal, or a picture-book of crop circles?"), or those who claim to be able to "see" auras without anything other than their basic 5 senses available (especially if they want money in exchange for this 'service'!!)
Somebody has probably done a serious scientific study on the effects of long-term exposure to devices like PCs... and remember, if you're sitting in front of a CRT, it's a lot like a TV set- plenty of radiation streaming out of there. But then again, the sun and other sources out there clobber us with radiation all the time, too. Having evolved in an environment with a certain average level of radiation, we're fine with it- in fact, we probably wouldn't be here without it.  So I dunno. Besides, unless you live in an extremely remote area, you've got all kinds of man-made waves passing through you constantly (radio, etc.) even if your house has no electronic devices in it. I seriously doubt your PC contributes very much, but that's not my field of expertise.
As for it having a bad influence on your soul, spirit, whatever... as difficult to prove as it would be to disprove. You're better off believing in things that can be proven.
If it makes your mother happy to believe that "natural" stuff can't hurt you and "unnatural" (electronic) stuff is bad, leave her to it. But make your own decisions.
Y'know, now that I think about it, maybe she's just trying to get you to stop playing music so late...

Aura?  Oops...  I never cared too much to look it up. ::) ;)

The whole aura thing just never seems to support itself.  Now, using the aforementioned logic, how can one explain how after watching TV for five non-stop hours I would get massive headaches, whereas with my PC I can literally get on from the minute I wake up and never stop 'till I fall asleep at the keyboard - never to feel the slightest bit bad!  They're both electonic things bombarding you with information and waves!

Computers are my freind...
