Girl, 15, dies in party stabbing
Police are bidding to track down all the guests at a birthday party which ended with the fatal stabbing of a 15-year-old girl.

Detectives arrested a 17-year-old girl near the scene in connection with the incident. She was taken to an east London police station, where she remained in custody.

Scotland Yard said officers went to a house in Saxon Road, Ilford, at 12.30am on Sunday after a disturbance during a 16th birthday party.

Police went to the house after they were flagged down by people in a nearby street asking for help.

The victim, who had suffered stab wounds, was taken by ambulance to Kings College Hospital but pronounced dead at 1.30am.

The girl, who was black, has not yet been named.

A post-mortem examination at East Ham Mortuary confirmed that the cause of the girl's death was a stab wound.

One man who lives in the quiet street said he was shocked to learn the girl had died. "I didn't realise she had died - I am shocked. This is tragic."

A friend of the dead girl was in tears when he arrived with his mother hoping to deliver flowers.

Joy Corey, 38, of Goodmayes, Essex, said her son Gavin, 15, was friends with the girl, who used to go to watch him play football. She said: "This is terrible, it's a hard loss for everyone to take, we are devastated."

OK.  Sounds like a nice bunch to invite to a party :-/

I was never a party animal myself. Used to spend my time either in the kitchen where the beer was or collapsed in a corner getting quietly sozzled & grinning at everyone. I'm perfectly harmless when drunk, unlike so many other people.

It's possible the girl that did this was uninvited. Even in my young days there was always the fear of uninvited guests forcing their way in & making a nuisance of themselves. These were usually male (I don't remember any unattached female gatecrashers) & apart from the odd catfight most females didn't get drunk or become violent. It seems to me that the girls are worse than the boys these days.

The girl, who was black, has not yet been named.
Strange that they would even mention something like that. Does it really matter? I guess if "Black People" are not common in London  ::)

Must admit I didn't spot that Dave. Like you, I see no reason to mention it but on the other hand I see no reason not to. There's plenty of black people in London.

I must be clairvoyant as from what I read later it seems the girl that did this terrible thing was indeed uninvited. The victim apparently upset her by accidently stepping on her foot. ::)

One thing i have noticed since moving to Birmingham, is everyone seems to mention a persons color or race when describing them. For example, this black guy did such and such. An indian guy said such and such. It was never like that in Bristol and while Birmingham is definatly more multicultural and i know they arent trying to be racist, it certainly makes me feel like they are. I mean what does a persons color or race have to do with anything?

I dunno. I suppose it's just a way of describing people. Like you might say you got pissed of with a chav or fell over an OAP. To some people it must seem necessary I suppose.

Well, it's a good way to identify someone for a start. Nobody objects if I refer to that chap with the red hair so why would they throw their arms up in horror if I mention the colour of their skin? I realise this can be seen as racist & has been in the past but I think people are far too sensitive about it.

One example of how silly this can be was a boxing match I watched some years ago between a black & white boxer, I forget who they were now but they were comparatively unknown. It was perfectly obvious to anyone that one was black & the other was white yet the commentator could only identify them by referring to one with a narrow stripe down his shorts. This was very difficult to see on a TV screen as they were both wearing white shorts. He was obviously not allowed to mention their skin colour which would have made it so easy. I couldn't help feeling that this was ridiculous.

I dont have a problem with it, if its relevant or nessicary to the conversation. But this is in every conversation most brummies seem to have when concerning people. If some guy cuts them up in their car i dont care if they were martians ( well ok then it would be fair:)) but some guy works fine for me.

Well remember they are brummies. And as I said, saying the colour of their skin just adds more description to the story. Otherwise you would just assume everyone to be white. :P

But this is my point, i dont assume color. To me they are just a person. 9 times out of 10 i dont care enough to give it a second thought. ::)

Well if it seems important to them then let it be. It's not hurting anyone.
