So what aircraft do you see over you're house?

Postby Ben_M_K » Thu Jan 27, 2005 9:11 am

Okay this is meant more for airline traffic but anything is okay.

As for me, Northwest Airlink flies CRJ-200s right over my house inbound to ATW and at 8:30PM FedEx flies a 727 roaring over my house.

Thats about it besides the usual GA.

Sorry Ben. I have no interest in modern airliners. I'm fortunate to live in an area where a variety of all types of aircraft fly over on a regular basis. You name it & I've probably seen it over here at some time or other, except for specific foreign airlines or military types.

When I was at school I kept a list of aircraft I saw every day in a little book. Unfortunately I lost it many years ago. There would be some very interesting sightings in there as this area was surrounded by operational military airfields at the time. Not only that but the annual King's Cup air races were sometimes held at our local airfield.  I grew up during the 1950s, the "Golden Age" of British aviation. Those were the days. ;)

"Gee Doug, what did you see today?"

"Oh just your run of the mill Chippie, but a pretty neat Chrislea Super Ace popped in for a cuppa..."

I used to commute to school by train which happened to pass Shoreham Airport. If I'd spotted something interesting on the way home I would immediately hop on my bike & rush over there to investigate. A couple of the more unusual types I remember were the Zaunkonig (G-ALUA), a rare parasol wing German light aircraft & the Hurel Dubois HD32 with its high apect-ratio wing. http://www.oldprops.f9.co.uk/HD34.htm
This was the forerunner of the later successful Shorts Skyvan & SD330/360 series.

Unfortunately I can't find a photo of the Zaunkonig. To my credit I remember recognising it immediately I saw it. I was always a bit of an anorak where aircraft are concerned. ;)

I don't see many aircraft here, mostly Dash 8 and Do 328. Sometimes Blackhawks, sometimes Tornados, F-16s, Hercs, CH-47 and AH-64. No big deal...

I see a lot of different planes here in TC...Some I can't name...a lot of the 172's and 182's as well as SAABs.

I know there's a Queen Air too...I also believe I've seen a Baron or two as well as some Pipers.

Home:10 miles from Ursel airfield, so lots of GA-planes, pipers, cessnas, ...

Work: close to the ILS approach of Ostend airport! 747's 757's airbusses, small boeings, ... Lots of variation

And I work close to a big hospital, so I see the Ecureuille chopper from time to time...

Not much over the house apart from a Police chopper that flys over about every two minutes and the light stuff from Rolls Royce at Hucknall. I work under the flight path to East Midlands airport so I see small Boeings and Airbusses all day long. In summer we also have a Spitfire ;D

I live under the route our A109's use daily to go to their gunnery range. I still love them!

Once we got an F-16 tundering over the house at lets say 400ft with AB, making a 360 followed by some waggle wings and then he left...allas that was an unique event.

I know C-5's and C-17's fly over daily on their way to Rammstein, but they are too high to see from the ground (although they are huge!).  ;)
Raw power...the J-58.

lol, lovely list so far...

ummm...a few years back I moved to a new home farther away from the local airport...

interestingly enough, now we are on the approach path for rw 1 at KCAK...not a lot of traffic comes in lower way out by the house, but once in awhile when the ceiling is low we will see some of the standard aeroplanes...

Air tran crj-200 mainly...

then of course the general aviation types, mostly cessna 172/182 type

Mr. Bones, I hope you still read this thread. A couple of years ago ( about 12) I stayed in the east of Belgium ( the Ardennes - you know Battle of the Bulge). There I witnessed a training excersize, between what looked like an F-14 tomcat and another fighter, could have been a F-16.

But the Tomcat I'am quite sure off. I certainlty saw a double tail and it was kinda white looking. They made a series of narrow turns and some loops. it was an awsome sight, acompagnied by a thundering sound.

Could this have been a Tomcat? Did the Americans ever train in Belgian airspace? Quite sure it wasn't an Iranian one...    ;D
