Now! Tell me if this doesn't mean swearing and blaspheming other's religeons or rubbishing their views when presenting their own, what in the world does it mean?

Ben. Can you show me any swearing or blasphemy in this thread? The problem with any discussion of this sort is that some people see the truth as blasphemy. Please lighten up a little & treat light-hearted remarks as they were intended. This is my last word on the subject.

Well, I will not point out individuals and I could list a lot - maybe not so much in this thread - I can't remember now.
But I fear this thread will be locked - so It may be the last time I post, but there is no-one regular here that doesn't understand what I am saying.
But I don't want to fall out with anyone, so I think I'll leave this as my last post to this topic.

Ok people, let's not forget the thing that brought us all together! Virtual flying! Let's not allow that our personal views on certain topics interfere with our contact on a daily basis.

On the swearing and blasphemy item i'd like to comment that not everyone's idea of what is a curse is based on the same standard. I won't give examples but i understand that some people might be offended by some words i don't see as rude.

Anyhow, let's concentrate on a very important idea, no matter what religion: forgiveness!  ;)

In the end, this topic didn't start as a religous one. It's simply how we stand on the concept of death. Although it's a fine line.

And Romulus? I'd feel sorry to see a valued member stop posting because of this all. Maybe you should try Saiteks idea, focus on the parts of Simv you do like!

Cheers all,

Kris

You see, I knew this might happen. Everybody seemed to be pretty mature about this and I agree with Romulos, it is very interesting read. This is why topics like this are treading on thin ice. Romulos' original post was just his thoughts on death, but just with that we open up many ways to speak about it.

I myself see nothing wrong with what anybody has posted yet since NOBODY is putting down anybody's belief.

The topic did not and does not need to be locked yet because these forums are not about "controlling" free speech. There are so many factors that come into play here, people's beliefs, their age and their religion.

If anybody wants to start pointing fingers at why this hasn't been locked is because nothing bad has been said.

Romulus, your words are some of the most respected here and I would advise you not to leave. Once again, I see nothing wrong with what anybody has posted. Yes, a few things that wobble the cart but nothing to the degree of needing to leave!

[center]You want to talk about death, Mark & I were on-line flying in our Spits this morning and Mark's engine blew! He landed dead stick as The Grim Reaper was sharpening his blade only to see Mark wink at him as he exited his aircraft!

Peace and Love People, it's Friday!!!

Jeez!  I can't leave you guys alone for a minute can I?!  :-/

Here's an interesting take on the afterlife.  In Jewish belief, it is belived that we live on as we are remembered.  The worst curse in Judaism is "May your name be blotted out!"

I'm not Jewish myself, so I apologize for any errors...but when someones name is blotted out, it is not put on this special wall used for that purposes (or so I remember hearing)...their name is also written on the soles of the shoes of the people in the Synagouge and when that person's name is called (I would think Roy Cohn would qualify) they would stomp their feet as the Rabbi Says the name and say "Haman!" and spit.

The same Rabbi who told me that also told me a joke:

A Priest, Islamic Cleric (Sorry, I don't remember what they are called...Iman maybe?), and a Rabbi were talking about how they'd like to be remembered.

The Priest said that he'd like to be remembered as a leader who nutured his flock like Jesus.

The Islamic Cleric said he would like to be remembered as a leader of his people like Moses.

The Rabbi said he would like to be lying on a table as people are talking about him and to have one of them say "Hey!  He's still breathing!"

I would hazard a guess that is because Death, like God, is a charged subject.

Death and God are often intertwined.

Agreed this thread has indeed brought into debate many important issues, alas some of the religious vs agnostic arguers here seem to be working up a head of steam. Guys this thread is about our personal beliefs with regard to dying, not about our religious or otherwise thoughts.
Personally I'm still hoping to get reincarnated, I've decided I'd like to be a sports bra as they get a serious workout, preferably as the property of some teenage nymph ;D ;D ;D

Ps. The dead stick landing earlier was brown flightsuit! I had to come in between 2 trees, and then dodge a house on the ground :o :o :o Needless to say my flight gear is now in the wash ;D

Well, that's one way to stay abreast of the subject! ;D

There's a movie called What the @#$% Do We Know.  It doesn't really talk about death per se, but rather about existence and even aging.  Several physicists speak and give intersting ideas.  It is a bit wierd...but one scientist says "If you dig deep enough and don't start feeling a bit wierd, you haven't been paying attention."

I'm not sure I'd call what went on here a "flame war" (though it did get at least a bit warm), I am inclined to think of this quote:

"Any fool can criticize, and many do"

Shoot the lawyers!  More skin on HBO!  L.H. Puttgrass signing off and heading for the tub!
