Postby jrpilot » Sat Jun 26, 2004 10:12 am

I just bought a few movies for PAL format and since Ilive in the U.S. I wouldn't be able to play them with my NTSC.  Does anyone have a solution for this....or does anyone know if can I buy a PAL player and use it in the U.S. meaning will it work with my cable?....I know there are PAL...NTSC converter but they seem expensive...this movie is a VHS

If you go to a gaming shop, there is a product called;
"Xploder", it is a disc that will let you play games and dvd's from any region.

I think NTSC is used exclusively in the States ???

The main difference, from what I can gather, is the resolution. PAL uses 576 pixels of vertical resolution whereas NTSC uses 480 pixels of vertical resolution.

Basically, the image quality on PAL is better.

PAL is mainly in Europe, NTSC is used everywhere else. Unfortunately, you won't be able to watch thoese movies unless you buy a DVD player from the same region in which they were bought. Your computer can play movies in both PAL and NTSC format on your monitor but it will only let your change DVD regions 5 times. For some strange reason, DVD's only work in the same continent in which they were bought. Probably to prevent smuggling but most likely paranoia over copyright infringment.

Edit: Whoops, just noticed the movie was VHS. Well, you'll just have to find a PAL TV to play it on. If your computer has video caputer capabilities, I think you may be able to convert it and retape it. It's not illegal if it's your the only one using it.

I don't think it's the TV as I've played both PAL and NTSC playstation games on the same TV using different Stations.

I was looking up converters but when I found one it was  very expensive...ones with reviews had said that it didn't work on my VHS and stuff...one relpy said that this PAl NTSC Converter was made for movies from the Central Americas...so I guess there are diffrent converters for each country...
