They will get round that one by saying your fee is paying for the Upkeep of the server and other overheads ..... and that you dont pay for the pictures. :(

But the key factor in this debate is that because the publishing and/or sale of these pictures is a civil matter, until the airline specifically comes forward and presses charges against the photographer, it doesn't matter.

Honestly, I don't think the airlines would ever go to that extreme.  Airline memorabilia trade shows have been going on for decades, always with logo merchandise available, including photos and slides of the aircraft.
Great edit, Bob.

Good point Scott.  I hadn't thought about that aspect.

Pippin, you mentioned being a photographer, I should have had you take my wedding photos(I've seen some of your work and it is great), the guy the "mother in law" had take them wasn't worth it.
Hell my ex-wife didn't even want them after the divorce!!!
What does that say about the quaility? The Ex always wants everything ;D

But the point I had was I already paid him for the originals, but I couldn't make copies of it because they "belonged" to him, I wasn't going to sell them but give them to family.

I did find out though he had a couple that looked really good, that he didn't give us! He was using them for advertising in his studio, seems he didn't get our permission to use our likeness for profit or advertising, so he had to remove them, I was just pissed that the two good pictures we didn't get!
So in some ways he has all rights too the photos and in other ways he doesn't, too frickin confusing ::)

And I assume this is different in various parts of the world, and maybe even in different States?

You didn't pay for the originals.  The originals are the negatives.  You paid for the first copy.  You paid for the one time use rights for his work.  I understand that because it is you, that you feel they are yours, but they are not.  As for the ones he kept back, I can't speak for his motives, but in photography, reputation is everything.  What may seem like a perfect print to you or me, may be filled with flaws that only a true photographer may see.  I know that I did not submit every picture I took to the customers I had.

BTW, the above arguments are the reasons I would NEVER do wedding then and will never again.  :D

Funny, Pip...I DJ'd a wedding once, and never did another wedding show.  My dad, however, made a killing doing weddings.  I'll stick with high school dances...much less formality.  LOL
