Come to think of it, I think our family got a little ant farm, but for some reason, all the ants died off really fast::)

We enjoyed our pet dogs instead

Insects

Postby Scorpiоn » Wed Feb 25, 2004 10:13 pm

I just think it's stupid.

Even when I was studying insects for entertainment, I never found an ant farm fascinating.  I pursued it with mild enthusiasm, but when my mom said no on the argument that they would get all over the house, I didn't give it another thought.  I can't imagine how people who call insects bugs could sincerely find an ant farm neat.
The Devil's Advocate.

Same with my brother. If it isn't fast racing or constant shooting, he loses his interest extremily fast ::)

I've tried to get him into simming.  30 seconds and he's bored.  Yet he can run a car in circles for hours and hours on end till even his CPU is dizzy.  300 miles an hour is sweet, yet the thought of Mach 2 is boring?....lol

The amazing thing is that he has the cheek to insult Europeans for buying ant farms.

I actually was at The Children's Science Museum in Raleigh Durham, NC. and they had an incredible exhibit. It was a huge glass terrarium. In it were the leaf cutting ants of the tropical rain forest. At one end was the area where the branches were with the leaves. The various glass areas were connected by glass tubes. At the other end was the entrance to the ants home. You could watch hundreds of ants marching from one end along the branches, to the leaves, chomp a few bites, then turn around and head back to their home. When they got back, you could see them enter the home and then go underground. Once underground, there were many tunnels with various purposes. Larva's were kept warm, the queen was kept guarded...it was really interesting to watch this entire dance the ants were doing!

People do seem to keep the strangest things as pets.  I have never understood the need to keep large spiders.  I'm not quite an arachnaphobe but I'm close too it and the thought of a six inch spider, uuurgh.

I read in the paper that a man somewhere was bitten by a pet spider and died.  His other pets (spiders, ants, termites etc.) then proceeded to eat him.  He was found two weeks later covered in webs, half eaten with insects in every orrifice....
