Support for FSX Has Come to an End

Postby Steve Hess » Wed Sep 19, 2012 11:42 am

Microsoft announced that Customer Support for FSX has expired. In the announcement, Jennifer Paige, Community Manager for Microsoft Studios said; "Customer Support for FSX has expired here at Microsoft. What does this mean? We will no longer be answering support emails or hosting various updates and download files for the FSX product. Why has it ended? It simply ran its course, all products will hit a support expiration at some point, FSX has hit that date." Microsoft will announce the closure of support in the XBOX forums and will provide links to the various community sites for fellow flight sim enthusiasts.

Makes me wonder how newcomers who get FSX now will be able to activate it with discontinued support. I know many people had issues activating (though I never did) and had to contact Microsoft to get it done on their end. How will it be handled now I wonder?

It will probably just load now, just like FS9 (FS 2004). You won't have to go the registering process every time you have to uninstall/reinstall. It shouldn't be a big deal as far as know.

That problem never occurred to me!... :o...!

So hopefully it wont be necessary from now-on.

Each of the previous MS Flight Sims finally reached the end of its supported life after a few years.
Hopefully, another Distributor will appear, to re-stock the Game shelves with copies of FSX...including its upgrades.....(and FS 2004)

Wonder if that means we can host the FSX demo ........ ? ;D

I've downloaded the SP2's and the SDK's in case it all gets locked up.

I was looking back at the uploaded utilities shortly after FSX came out and it is incredible what is available for FSX. FSX (or FS2004 for some) is still the best PC flight simulator in existance - with a LONG way to go!

& PC's are still the best gadgets by far to experience flight simulator in the home.

& websites like this will be offering the 'TRUE SUPPORT' for FS for many years to come.  8-)

Before I get into a panic.... :o...
I purchased the original "FSX Deluxe Edition" when it was first released...
..and that's what I currently have installed on my HDD.
Do I need to download and install any more recent; "upgrades" to that original program, before they become unobtainable?

Many thanks... :)...!

Probably should just to be on the safe side... not that you'll ever likely leave FS9, but if you do...

What would these recent "upgrades" be, that were not included with the original; "FSX Deluxe Edition"...(October 2006)?

Paul,

You can download SP1 and 2 from here-http://www.microsoft.com/Products/Games/FSInsider/downloads/Pages/default.aspx

SP1 may be adviseable as it contains performance upgrades. You need sp1 installed before sp2
Sp2 addresses adds multi-player comatibility with Accel. and provides Dx10 preview, so you may not find it necessary.

If you have installed the SDK, it should be upgraded to match your installed FSX version-http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=SDK_Installation_(FSX)

If you would buy Acceleration or Gold, all SPs are included.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

I bought FSX gold from Amazon.com 2 months ago (still in its wrapping), and I was waiting for my new computer which will arrive within two weeks to install it.  I hope it will install without problems now that you cannot register on MS site.
