Flight Dynamics Questions

Postby B-Valvs » Mon Sep 13, 2010 3:17 pm

I have a few questions about flight dynamics.

1. Are they "hard wired" to aircraft or can they be changed?

Leading to my next question:

2. Can the default 737-800's flight dynamics somehow be used with the POSKY 737-800 BBJ2?

Thanks for any answers.

Flight dynamics are coded into the .air file, as well as in the aircraft.cfg file.
The aircraft.cfg, you can edit it with notepad.
The .AIR file, you need some special editor, and some serious knowledge in the FS flight dynamics parameters too.
Technically yes, you can edit the flight dynamics of a plane to make him fly like another.

So, for a complete novice like me, the answer would be no? Does the .AIR file contain only flight dynamics info?

If I understood correctly: yes it contains all the parameters that are to be taken into consideration by the physics engine.

And no, if you are a novice, there's a good chance that you won't be able to understand a thing in those codes :)

It should be possible to swap the flight dynamics of any two aircraft. The sim doesn't know what the visual model looks like & the FDEs of all third party aircraft are based on the default files anyway. I've never done this for an FSX aircraft but it won't do any harm to try it.

The way I would do this is to take copies of the AIR file & Aircraft.cfg from the default B737_800 & paste them to your Desktop.
Rename the AIR file to the name of the POSKY 737-800 BBJ2 AIR file.
Copy the [fltsim.x] & [contact_points] entries from the Posky Aircraft.cfg & paste them into the appropriate places in the default Aircraft.cfg, replacing the existing entries.
Paste the two files into the main folder of the Posky aircraft overwriting the originals. (Back up the original files first.)

Now go & try it in FSX. Tell me if it worked.

Which part of this do I need? Also, should I switch the scrape points as well? Thanks.

Thanks for the help. I'm trying it now, but I'ms tuck on the contact points. Here is everything in that section from the .cfg:

Replace the whole section.

Also include the static_pitch= & static_cg_height= entries.

Note that lines remarked like this // are disabled.

Also, should I switch the scrape points as well? Thanks.

Affirmative.

PS. I just tried it. Also replace the following sections
[Effects]
[Lights]
[WEIGHT_AND_BALANCE]
& [Views]

Other than a few minor issues I need to work out (lights, etc) it is working. Thanks very much Hagar. I do notice one issue, it's not a big one, normally, there are animated stairs that fold out from the plane but now they don't work. It's not a big deal, jsut a nice extra. Any ideas on why this happened?

Glad to help but please remember that I'm no expert on FDE editing. FSX aircraft are far more complex than the ones I'm used to messing around with.
