RealEngine v1.1, in the FSX Misc section

FSX including FSX Steam version.

My programming skills died with assembly language for the Z80, FORTRAN, COBOL, BASIC, (and a bit with Visual Basic 6).

Yes it is frustrating to get "behind" it all.  At one time I was right on the cutting edge.  No time to keep up since it is not a profession.

I've been reading up on making XML gauges, but then it seems to require C++ knowledge which is even more confusing...

Oh I long for the day when I can just tell my computer to
"do this" and it be done.   ;D  ;)

This is an AWESOME thread. I'm really hoping to see this become a standard feature in all aircraft, and should have been from the beginning. I want to put this in my Carenado singles.

Now is this the same magic tech that is in the A2A Piper Cub? I thought I read that it has cumulative engine wear programmed in. I don't own it, but it seems like you're pushing a very similar effect.

It' not cumulative. This RealEngine system will of course never be as complex and realistic as the Accusim system from A2A.
However, this system is good enough to force a pilot to watch his engine gauges very carefully, which is already a HUGE step forward in the flight realism/immersion in the simulator :)

Why not?  If they can program it... so can others.  It is about the time and effort that is put into it.... not some magic.  Maybe this gauge will evolve into something at least as good.  We don't know yet.  If it becomes sort of an "open source" effort........ with lots of minds and skills added in....... who knows where it will go.

A complete team has been working on Accusim for several months... for each plane !
I'm not saying that RealEngine will not become anything realistic or complex. But I think you're under-estimating the complexity of Accusim ;)

That complexity is also it's biggest limiting factor.

Of course Shane, I totally agree with you and I never said anything against the greatness of this RealEngine stuff.
In fact, I am myself a RealEngine fanboy, to use your own words :)

But the question from flaminghotsauce needed a clear answer, which I provided. And in my answer there was NOTHING like "RealEngine is bad", don't get me wrong, gentlemen ;)

I was also just trying to show the biggest difference between Accusim & Realengine.

Your quote just helped me to show that point.  :) It was nothing at all against you.  ;)

Brett hits the nail on the head too.  ;)

Shane, thanks for the perfect sales pitch. Couldn't have done it better.

- I need some advise regarding the asymmetric flaps failure module - shall I tune down the effect so it's more easily controllable?
Any opinion?

I'll have to admit, the first time I lost the flaps due to over-speed deployment,
it took me by surprise, and required quite a bit of effort to keep it straight and level,
and get the plane back on the ground.  :o

I'm not sure how realistic that is, but I can say,
I felt like I had accomplished something by being able to land the plane without causing any further damage.  ;)

If that's what the event is like in real life, then I'd say leave it as is, if not, then it could be a bit more forgiving.

I don't know why, but when developing the effect I didn't even do any web search on accident reports and the like.

Looked at it now, and most state a violent roll, but which is controllable. Sounds not too far off to me.
I think I'll leave it as is ;D
Don't fail your flaps!

I flew a Tomahawk, years ago, that had a "droopy" flap.  I'm talking maybe 3 degrees, tops. It was a handful to fly, and land.
