Props behind clouds

Postby patchz » Thu May 06, 2010 11:14 am

There are a number of very good models originally designed for FS9 and updated to work in FSX. And for the most part they work and work well. The main glitch I am seeing is the props behind clouds. Is there a fix for this? An example would be Milton Shupe's Beech XA-38, which is a fantastic model. One of the best vc's I have seen and a soundset that would make Mama cry. Not to mention, it flies extremely well. See my post in Payware for shots of the XA-38, though I avoided any with the props behind the clouds.

Actually - no!

Afaik there's no fix for this issue. There have been many questions about it in the past, but the tenor is that there's no solution: you could instead brighten up the prop-texture to decrease the effect...

Thanks. Maybe some ingenious individual will find a fix. We can always hope.

There as to be some way, because you can make airplanes for FS9 and make airplanes for FSX, so there has to be something! I wonder if you could contact someone who has made an airplane for FS9 and updated it for FSX that works :-?

It's not easy like that.
When you make a plane for FSX, the materials are different, the animations are made differently, even the textures are different. Converting a plane from FS9 to FSX is a very deep rebuild of the plane itself, and it's certainly not something that Mr.Everybody will be able to do ;)

So the fact that the FS9 props are drawn behind (sometimes in front) of the clouds is due to the fact that FSX is optimised to draw FSX-format objects, and FS9 format objects are not drawn in the correct way anymore. That's why you get FPS impact with FS9 planes, as well as minor graphic glitches like those props.

Patchz, you'll be glad to know that Milton's Howard 500 and Spartan Executive have been converted to real FSX SP2 native format. Milton gave the source files to another guy at SimOuthouse, and he rebuilt the planes with FSX tools to make them real FSX aircrafts. They are available at FSNorthWest.

This doesn't add much, other than a little hope.

Nor-Cals Spartan is an update of the FS2004 version.

The FSX Spartan at FSNorthwest is a complete rebuild of the model thru the FSX SDK which makes it a true FSX aircraft.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

[color=#000000]People are still building models for FS9, so hopefully, eventually, we will get all the good ones for FSX. We just need to be patient and remember to give the modelers credit and thanks.
