Google around.  Specifically look for out of date charts.  Here, in the US, there are some available on forum/download sites but none suitable for the UK.  As I recall, a plotter is a plastic protractor/straight edge combo with different scales - any pilots' store.

Try going by your local Fixed Base Operator. He has to take obsollete charts out of circulation and he is required by big brother to cut the Chart title and data off the top of the chart. he should sell it fairly cheap or perhaps even give it to you.  Be sure and tell him that it is flight simulator practice and doesn't have to be current. Just glue in a replacement section with the chart title on it.

a few years back I use to work for US Airways and I would routinely ask the pilots if they had any old charts that they didnt need/want, or had to throw away due to updates.  They would happily just hand them over and the charts still had the tops on em.

Check with a local private / charter FBO/airport and ask them for charts that pilots turn in and let them know you do not care if the charts a little old as Harris says also.  Not only do you get the charts for free, but you get to meet other Real Pilots and talk to them and get to know them and if they are Cessna / or other small craft pilots maybe they could tell some secrets of getting a license if you had been thinking of getting one.
