FSX fails in the crosswind simulation. To me, the crosswinds are much more different in real life than in the sim.

That's the point I was making, you can't get full realism on this type of sim cause you can't feel the pressure of the wind on the aircraft. Wouldn't it be great if a small scale sim was built that was like the one they use to train real pilots, but than again the cost would most likely be more than the cost of real lessons. But you got to admit, it's still tricky to land with a heavy crosswind. I guess what the eyes see, they feel. It sure would be great to fly the Jenny by the "seat of my pants" as they say. But for now I'm happy!

                                                  P.S.
Can someone who uses a force-feed joystick tell how it is using one, I'm trying to track one down.

Skunker,
I think part of the problem with crosswind landings in FSX is that the mechanism of slip is gorked in most planes and you can't do a proper wing-low crosswind landing. If you have the Acceleration add-on, you might try one of the jazzed up Extra 300s, because they slip much more like a real plane.

Try RealAir's planes, their spin and slip behaviour is very well modelled.

I have never tried slipping or spinning in a real airplane, but I'm sure these models are almost 100% true to life :)

[quote]The only problem I have as far as realism goes, is that I can't feel the pulse of the aircraft ( movement, vibrations, G force, effects of the wind & weather ect. ).
Get a "ButtKicker unit for your pilot seat. It helps with the vibration thing. You can feel the landing gear and flaps affect the aircraft.(depends on the aircraft sound modeling)

Most importantly.. if you DO want to learn the realistic side of simming.. You need to park the jets and do your learning in something slow and forgiving.

:)

I really should start to learn more in the cockpit and etc. just havent really sat down and took alot of lessons. I need to take maybe like a 1 a day like read your parts one a day or something and ofcourse I might not even know half the stuff your talking about which is why ill have to look it up. ;D
What I need to learn is how to use the prop and mixture. I just got a yoke, pedals, and a throttle for christmas just havent learned about the prop and mixture so I cant use them inless I wanna crash.  ::)

There is only one way to answer your realistic question.
You need to learn to fly!
Go to the local airport take lessons and soon you can solo.
Get your private's license and go from there.
That's the real deal. It is wonderful!!!
