this is pissin me off

Postby Stubbedtoe18 » Fri Jul 13, 2007 7:05 pm

why is it that mroe than half of the time that I exit to my desktop with FS running in flight in doesn't f'ing work and reopen!?!?  This is really making me mad because I was just like a half an hour into a mission when my stupid Norton protection started to run a virus scan.  then, it wouldn't reopen.  How in the world do I fix this and stop it from happening!?!?!?!  thanks

When I fly I ALWAYS disable my virus programs, addware/spyware programs and fire walls.  I have never had an interruption from any of those programs while I fly.  I do how ever have the occasional gamespy glitch......  stupid gamespy.....

Shut off what you dont need and it will lower the chance of it messing you up.

It will re-open eventually. How much RAM do you have ?  I could be wrong, but I think that if you have just 1GB it literally doesn't even have enough free memory to calculate the next step... even not enough to "decide" to to use the virtual RAM. After I upgraded to 2GB, mine doesn't take near as long to re-open (it took nearly 10 minutes once)...

If I'm completely off-base, I'm sure an expert will show up soon to scold me..lol

Instead of minimising it try pressing Alt- Enter to go into windowed mode. When you're done press alt - enter again.

LIke you I only have 1gb ram, but have found that if you wait 30 seconds, then press alt tab, it opens very quickly.

Yes I'm back early due to reall bad weather in the north atlantic.

I set everything up to update manually, they`re all a pain in the rear even if it is handy.  All you need to do is check them all out once a week or so while you`re having your tea or something.  HP are the biggest culprits, they have some program that reports back, checks for updates and keeps an eye on any printers.  Theirs no choice but to install it, no choice to uninstall it and no choice in configuring it-time to stop buying HP now, always liked them too.  I use the registry to force them out, but this is not for everyone and needs some care in doing it.   If using the flight sim offline, then I turn off all task tray items, the network gets stopped, the AV gets stopped from monitoring-takes about 2 mins to turn off and back on, then I use FSX nice and smoothly with full power and no darned interruptions.

That's just a minor pain in the A$$. The other day I alt+Tabbed out and it wouldn't reopen FSX. I waited a while and nothing so I Alt+Tab+Del to shut down FSX and when I hit End Process I got a blue screen. When the computer restarted I tried to run FSX and it said the program failed to register. I ended up with the time limited demo. All attempts to reenter the CDKey failed. I reinstalled but the reinstall stopped about 90% of the way through and gave me an error report. I had to look up the error report on the Microsoft website and download a utility to reset my registry before reinstalling FSX completely from scratch.

You were lucky.  :'(
