JACKPOT

How did you come up with that combo? I would never have pushed the slider to 100% on those numbers.

Just a very small drag or lag here and there but for the most part that silly drag and stutter is gone!

a .45 FFTF runs the same as a .35 FFTF so there is a difference in how that loads the system down. I found no difference between .45 and .35 for sharp ground textures and notice very little difference in how slow the system ran. .25 is just as blury as it was in the past and .35 you can tell there is a higher load but nothing like it was before SP1. My thought is .33 is where it belongs just like the man said but lowering it does nothing but increase frames. I dont want blurs so lower is not an option for me.

The processor scheduling tweak in the config changed nothing.

I assume you meant 25% on the ships and boats because that is what we have been running. The boats are there but it is the same as the autogen, they show up when you get closer and I do not notice the wake effects to a moving boat until it appears. They did a good job of faking that one because I cant tell when they come into frame. Before I could see a lot of them in the distance along with the water wake FX.

It looks to me like you added 40% to my original numbers

Heres the kicker, if I reduce the AG trees and bldgs to 1400/700 on the SAME settings the sim bucks along with that strange stutter. As soon as I set it to 1600/800 that problem is almost gone and the airport frame rate went UP and average of 2. I dont get it, but I like it

Lacrossefan:  Phil Taylor suggests that where fps exceed 40/50 turning vsync off improves performance.  He has a lot of suggestions in his three? part blog on SP1 including cfg tweaks.  Follow the links on FSInsider to his blog.

I have looked at the blog and have not seen where the vsync is mentioned, can you please elaborate?

Edit: nevermind, found it

Edit again: However, I can't find anything on the vsync in the fsx.cfg file.

Nick, you are a god. Thank you! The sim is running very well and much smoother than before. Although I do need help finding out my trees/buildings slider. Can I get some help, anyone? My specs are in the signature. Thanks in advance! :D:D:D

;D ;D ;D Teeeeheeee! Just plunked sp1 in yesterday. Didn't really tweak my config to begin with or anything like that so I didn't take out and replace my resized textures or anything. Just installed it soon as it downloaded. Now I AM FLYING!  :o Wooohooo! ;D ;D ;D Love this patch.
Now, just a little more tweaking of the autogen to account for my increased performance  and I am set till FS11..... 8-)

Brett: you're a sceptic (disbeliever), not an aseptic which means you're clean and ready for surgery (on FSX I presume).  I'm still four days away from being able to install into my machine, so I am finding these posts with their fixes, particularly NickN again, extremely exciting.

lacrossefan:  No it doesn't exist in the cfg file, you have to add it in using the text that Phil Taylor has in his blog.

Hi Ashaman,

Maybe this will help, if you still have some time to loose.

Thanks for your time. Had to reinstall the damn thing again anyway (and reactivate it too). Later today I'll try again patching it. I owe it to my nephew at the very least.

We'll see. :-/

So far I have:
FTTF: .34
TBM:160
SWAP_WAIT_TIMEOUT=16 <---Need more info
Water maxed out
I decreased autogen to 650/325
Scenery radius still maxed

Runs smoothly with occasional stutters loading landmarks (I do not mind those) and no blurries at 250knots down low over a city.

1856/928 is indeed the spot. If I go 50/25 higher I see a drop. I can run both 75 and 100% AG slider but 75% "Very Dense" is a touch smoother with little loss to the AG. I really wish they had not ducked with the scenery ring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh well

and something else occurred to me after reading PT's blog posts. It may be better to turn AF off in the video card drivers (set to "application preference") and set the sim filtering to "Anisotropic"

I would try that but do not enable AA in the sim and leave AA enabled on the video card @ 4x

Anisotropic in the sim may actually be of benefit now.

Tried it turning AF to app controller in drivers and anisotropic in sim. It caused flickering similar as to if MIPS in fs9 were set to high on ATi cards.

I'm excited too...  I was just pointing out that it does not take outrageous hardware to run FSX.. and that these growing pains are nothing new. I think Nick's advice, time and efforts are priceless  :)

I am a  Newbee in the FSX-Scene. But after a long download and following installation, I am pretty happy about the SP1. It increased the performance on my Laptop considerably.

Would be thankful to read experiences of enthusiasts, running the FSX on a portable Computer.

Hi there, i use a laptop to to run FSX, I didnt have very high expectations at first. But once I was surprised at how well it ran it. And my laptop isnt that great. single core and onboard graphics. It runs fine though. cant wait to try out the new patch once i get home.
Doubt it will affect my performance much though, since i have a single core :'( (damn, should have taken the other model at the store :P, the one i got looks nicer and shinier though ;D)

Cheers,
