La Rochelle.

Postby gypsymoth » Wed Dec 30, 2009 5:28 am

I've installed LA ROCHELLE - ILE DE RE v2.0 Pour FS9 (1LFBH_La_RochelleV2FS9.zip) which is a nice product from here, but it has a towver view a long way from the tower.   I added a view to the AF2_LFB.bgl file which gives me a tower view. The odd thing is another tower (default) appears on the apron about 300 yds from the control tower with the new view.   If I removed my edited bgl file & replace it with the original, the default tower disappears along with the view of course........I've added lots of tower views & never come across this anomily before.  Can anyone tell me what's going on & why?    :-? ::) :o

What program did you use to modify the file?

If you used Afcad2.21 to modify a file created with AFX it is possible that you lost an exclude when you re-compiled the file with Afcad.

cheers,
Joe

I used Afcad221 on the installed AF2.LFBH.bgl file, as I have for  every other view.  The unwanted tower appeared with the flatten file.  I took it out as it makes the area far too flat & unlike the real built-up La Rochelle area but the tower appears with or without the flatten file.......:-?

The author states in the readme that AFX was used in the creation of this addon.

In case you don't know, AFX is sort of the next generation of Afcad2.21.

There are some differences in their capabilities.

AFX has the ability to exclude default scenery objects, like the tower at la Rochelle (and many other buildings).

Afcad2.21 does not have any exclude capabilities.

So when you open a file that was created with AFX, and edit it with Afcad2.21, then save the changes, Afcad discards all the exclude info.

The result is the default tower reappears on the scene. And if you turn your scenery sliders all the way up the airport is covered with default objects, in addition to the addon objects.

So if you want to edit the AF2*.bgl in this addon with Afcad2.21, you will then need to create an exclude file to get rid of the default objects.

Another capability that AFX has over Afcad2.21 is the ability to exclude\create\move taxiway signs. If you edit the file with Afcad those changes will be lost also. I have not tested this scenery to see if this applies here, but if you see anomalies in taxiway sign placement, this is why.

As for the flatten you mention, I tested this without any addon mesh and the area is quite flat. I also did not see a file labeled as a flatten, though many appear to be labeled in French, so I may have missed it.

A flatten file should not have much effect on this issue anyway, since it won't exclude default objects.

Flattens and excludes are 2 different things.

Finally, just to be clear, the Tower view is not related to the 3-D object you see in the sim in any way, and it appears that the addon uses the default view.

Sorry if I am telling you things you already know, others reading this may also benefit.

cheers,
Joe

Thanks Joe.

I did realise that AFX is the next gen...but as I've not long got used to using Af.221 I've not had the need to use AFX as I think this is the first time I've come across it.  Perhaps I should explore it!  I see Flight1 have it so will do some sleuthing there.

I understand your very clear explantion about the exclude properties, etc & feel that I'm just going to have to be satisfied pto tem with the default tower view, except that I've moved it to near the proper tower & saved it so I no longer get a view from fields 5 miles away.

I understand about taxiway signs, eg. & haven't seen any misplaced ones.   In realise in future I must  check to see what made the afcad.

I said flatten but it's a 'photo-realistic'- the "LFBH_Sol_Photo.exe" in fact - but it was far too sparse/flat  unlike realiity & the scenery I have with just the new airport installed is almost right!

You've told me most things I didn't know so thanks for spending the time doing so, I appreciate it.
Happy 2010  :D
Terry.
