Done that deleting / reinstalling and still list of saved flights - so deleted them - solved.
I can fly fine - but without the menu bar displayed at the top of the screen. To get the menu bar I have to press Alt and then the display freezes although the flight continues and responds to the keyboard/joystick commands although the responses are frozen until the screen is released by pressing Alt again. Can be solved by pressing P to pause - but why should I have to

Is there a way to display the menu bar and keep the display moving on the screen - then all will be great....
Cheers
Steve
...that's the way FS 2004 works....
You fly in full screen mode with the menu bar hidden.
You press "Alt", the Menu bar appears at the top of the screen, and the screen freezes waiting for you to make a selection.
When the selection is made, or ignored, you press "Alt" again, which returns you back into the Sim again.

As Fozzer said.... if you press ALT in **2004** then it temporarily Pauses the sim so that you can figure out a course of action to take... like changing view distances, view modes, key assignments, map inquiries, Display Settings.. etc etc etc. It is just the way that Microsoft programed the sim and there is nothing that can be done to "unlock" the ALT bar feature unless you fly in Windowed Mode and pull the "window" to the corners of your screen thereby trying to give the largest screen possible.
However, in FS X.. Microsoft got smart to this default bug and changed the codes to allow the sim to continue to fly / move / opperate while the ALT bar is at the top of the screen taking up 1/4" of space.
