New problemfor me . .

Postby rigg37 » Sun Apr 05, 2009 2:04 pm

Hi,
I've flown FS2004 - since 2004, so I'm not a totally newbie. However I've just reinstalled it on a new, larger drive and upgraded the PC a bit too.
Now I can't get the screen to where I want it. I don't want a cockpit view window to fly from - I never have had. I have to 'Unlock View' to get the display to move and then it will work and fly normally - but the aircraft's panel is in the window behind, unless I shrink the outside view and then it sits above the panel top in a straight line (in front of the panel). I have not explained that very well I think ! ! Is there a way to restore some defaults because before I install all my addon scenery and aircraft I want it to be basically sorted out for flying.
Thanks for all help you can offer.

If you really want to restore 'defaults' in FS simply delete the FS9.cfg. You can find yours here: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9

Restart FS9 and it'll make a new one for you with all the default settings.

Good luck,

Crash ;)

is there any chance that you could take a screen shot using the PRNT SCRN key and paste it in MS PAINT -- save as .jpg; then come here and upload it and share it with us so that we can see what you "see" is the problem.  it may be just as simple as going to ALT + VIEW > View Mode.   This is basically the exact same as hitting "S" to switch views.

or, if you only like flying in the Virtual Cockpit, you can simply save your flight while you are in the VC  (or other view) then when you boot it up next time, you will always start in that view.

Thank you both for the replies.
I've deleted FS9.cfg (renamed) and tried that but it still does the same.
I've tried to attach a screen shot of the two screens I can get.

On a positive side (always a good thing) I can fly in normal mode - but only when the top of screen menu bar is hidden. As soon as I press Alt to show it things go wrong!

Another question -  having installed FS2004 on a new hard disc without any data carrying devices from my old setup connected, why does FS9 still carry my old saved flights in the start up screen options??? I'm baffled by that (that's easily done though).

Cheers again,

Steve

Are you, by any chance accidentally, or intentionally, pressing the "[" and "]" keys, (between"P" and "Enter"?

This will superimpose another "window" over your Cockpit window.

Hi Nav,

I think that is why I've got the old saved flights etc. I had the same thought while out doing a bit of gardening while Uninstall was running a few minutes ago. I copied the contents of My Docs into the new HD and brought all the User info too. Now I've just come back and deleted all the files saved in User/..../.../fs9.
At the moment I'm in the process of doing a reinstall and I hope all will be well . . . .soon . . . currently on disc 3.

Done that deleting / reinstalling and still list of saved flights - so deleted them - solved.

I can fly fine - but without the menu bar displayed at the top of the screen. To get the menu bar I have to press Alt and then the display freezes although the flight continues and responds to the keyboard/joystick commands although the responses are frozen until the screen is released by pressing Alt again. Can be solved by pressing P to pause - but why should I have to ???

Is there a way to display the menu bar and keep the display moving on the screen - then all will be great....

Cheers

...that's the way FS 2004 works....

You fly in full screen mode with the menu bar hidden.

You press "Alt", the Menu bar appears at the top of the screen, and the screen freezes waiting for you to make a selection.

When the selection is made, or ignored, you press "Alt" again, which returns you back into the Sim again.

If you press alt-enter you will change to windowed mode which will have the menu bar accross the top of the screen.......personally I dislike this mode and always use the fullscreen mode, why pay all this extra money on bigger monitors, and then waste a bunch of screen  realistate on a window frame  ::) just because it takes more effort to press alt first before I open the menu ;)  That being said, it would be nice if you could press alt and the game didnt pause, so you could go into the menu and make changes on the fly......so to speak ;)

As Fozzer said.... if you press ALT in **2004** then it temporarily Pauses the sim so that you can figure out a course of action to take... like changing view distances, view modes, key assignments, map inquiries, Display Settings.. etc etc etc.  It is just the way that Microsoft programed the sim and there is nothing that can be done to "unlock" the ALT bar feature unless you fly in Windowed Mode and pull the "window" to the corners of your screen thereby trying to give the largest screen possible.

However, in FS X.. Microsoft got smart to this default bug and changed the codes to allow the sim to continue to fly / move / opperate while the ALT bar is at the top of the screen taking up 1/4" of space.
