a difficult flight

The other day I downloaded the C185, by Lucariny, from Simviation props P22.

Have you tried adjusting the elevator effectiveness, elevator trim effectiveness, and/or lift coefficient variables of the wing yet?

Note: I have not had the opportunity yet to try this aircraft.

I just tried it, same outcome as yours. Needs a major overhaul of the .cfg/.air files I'd suspect.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

...well, at least you managed to get it off the ground!.... :o...!

I started it up...the Tacho needle wound itself up against the stop...and stayed there...with the Aircraft firmly glued to the ground and the prop flailing away...and nothing happening as regards any forward movement!

I think I'll stick to my Cessna 150...;)...!

Tonight I got on a Spanish language sim site and found a C185 - what luck !!

After flying Microsoft's Aircraft every day for the past 10+ years, I think I've got that one figured out... ;D... ;D... ;D...!

Paul..G-BPLF...FS 2004..FS Navigator...and a Handbrake handle... ;D...!

Funny thing though, me having little patience, if I try an aircraft that doesn't work correctly, I instantly delete it, and download one that does work correctly...;)

My curiosity got the better of me so I just tried it. I suspect your problem was a case of too much of the old red vino. :P

I had the same problems as the others. It's a shame as the C185 is not a bad looking model. Some people are better at modelling than flight dynamics. Should be easy enough to fix if anyone was interested.

Well curiosity got the best of me -

I downloaded and installed the C185dgl - (CESSNA 185 SKYWAGON VH-DGL by JRLUCARINY).

As presented it indeed is a flying disaster.

But just as an experiment I copied over the air file (Cessna182S.air) from the default C182 and edited the sim= line so it reads:

sim=Cessna182S

The Cessna 185 Skywagon VH-DGL flies "reasonably well" with those minor changes.

It is not a "keeper" for me however.

Hi

I have noticed over the years that many planes have trim set way too high, in their .cfg file:
elevator_trim_effectiveness = 1.0
From the default Lear.

1.0 is full deflection, just as much as full deflection of your joystick. It is far too much. Try something like 0.15. This is all most planes need and will still allow you enough trim for any segment of the flight, including approach. Plus it makes adjustment so much smoother and much moe realistic. Rudder and Aileron need lowering too.

The first thing I do when I install a plane is check the trim settings in the .cfg. Probably 90% of the planes I have installed needed adjustments.

Much as I'd like to dive into a .cfg file and do some of this technical stuff, methinks my skill level is a lot lower than my enthusiasm.
