cfg.file?

Postby ming60 » Mon Feb 16, 2009 1:21 pm

Aloha one and All, I have this problem and I think I know what it is but need help, My FS9 is not seeing my video card, I know this sounds wierd but it doesn't see either my 7900gs, or the 9800gt, I think the problem is in the FS9 cfg. file for the video cards. I would really like to use the scenery slider controls( I have never been able to use them). Maybe one of you folks could check your cfg. file and see if it shows the nvidea cards.  If it does please send me a copy.  Thanks Ric

Have you tried deleteing or better yet "renaming" your FS9.cfg file as FS9.cfg.Bak (thus effectively disabling it) and letting FS2004 build a completly fresh new one - with all of the default settings - when you start Fs2004 again?

That is a wise thing to do when you install a new graphic card.

Did that and did a Fresh Install and I'm still not getting any slider use.
I would like it if someone that is running a 9800gt would post a pic of what it shows in your cfg. file maybe then I could write it in. All my cfg. shows a Nvidea 5200 and quad cards in the file.  I'm dying here. Ric

When the sim creates a new config file, it reads from Windows to see what hardware is installed. If Windows doesn't see the correct card, FS9 won't be able to either. A quick way to check to see if this is the problem, would be to enter you computer's display properties, click the settings tab, then click the advanced button. On the next menu, click the adapter tab, and see what card is listed. If it says Default something or another, then the card isn't installed correctly.

In any case, I'm thinking that you may want to uninstall the card's drivers, use Driver Sweaper (in safe mode) to remove any traces of those drivers that may get left behind, then reinstall the latest version of those drivers. Something tells me your card's software install didn't take.

Thanks for the advice Groundbound1, tried that, no help, I really think its in the display cfg. If only I had another to compare,(with one running a 9800gt) with working sliders.   Ric :'(

The display.cfg really only tells the sim to use certain driver aspects and modes with older cards that the sim is known to have issues with. There shouldn't be anything in there regarding a 9800gt OR a 7900gs. If the sim doesn't see the card you're using, then I would almost bet it isn't installed correctly.

Are you letting Windows install the hardware using it's drivers, or are you using the drivers from Nvidia?

Sorry to butt in - but wouldn't

Start/Settings/Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager

yield a Yellow Flag if there was a problem with Windows "seeing" the Video Card and it's proper drivers?

OK! Heres the latest, checked my drivers, all other games(MOH, farcry2, etc.) play well and I have video control. Now with FS I still have no control over the sliders. Does anyone know what file I should look for to check if my card is in there? It has to be the Sim.   Ric :'( :'(

Well Ric, this one has me scratching my head for sure. What are your other system specs and what operating system are you using?

The only thing I can now think of is to double check your Bios to be absolutely sure any "onboard video" has been disabled.

As I understand it, you cannot have onboard video and an addon video card operational at the same time.

Keep us posted.
