Wierd ACT?

Postby FlightSimKid » Mon Nov 26, 2007 12:06 pm

Ok, well i decided to do a long haul flight from Charles de Gaules - JFK, and when it was time to decent i looked at the wind(as i always do) and noticed that it was 78knots, so i expected ACT to either abort landing or keep me circling. How wrong i was i got to 2,500ft, really heavy conditions now, it dropped to 74knots but still kept thinking ACT will keep me circling but no, i hear "Air France 672, Cleared to land"

ATC in FS9 will do a lot of crazy things. Last night I was on final to SKBO Bogota Columbia in the F1 PC-12. I'd been cleared to land on rwy 31R when an American Airlines 747 landed on 13L. Imagine my surprise to be head to head with that. ATC didn't even tell me to go around. ATC in all the MSFS is far from perfect but at least the one in FS2004 is better than FS2002 which would happily vector you right into the side of a mountain. Happened to me once on an IFR flight. Reloaded the flight from a save and when I tried to miss the mountain ATC complained that I was 500ft above my assigned altitude.  :P  I think that controller was out to get me. ;D

ATC will indeed do crazy things in FS. As for crosswind landings each type of aircraft has its own limit as to the max crosswind factor
The one factor that is completely ignored in FS is the RVR(RUNWAY VISUAL RANGE). I have been cleared to land at a airport that had less than 50 feet visibility I was in a MAD dog 80(MD80) and I know for a fact that 50 feet is well below the RVR for a MD80  8-)

I never have problems with ATC... :)....!

I just check my approach plates, decide which runway I wish to use, and which end I want to land on, in my trusty little Cessna 150....

...keep a wary eye on who's around...

...and completely ignore Air traffic Control.... [smiley=evil.gif]...!

Can't be arsed with all this complicated "ATC instructions" malarkey...It's much too stressful!.... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]....!

Trust me!.... ;D....!

F....What's "FAA/CAA"?.... ::)...!

ATC is FS is very simple minded.  They don't care about wind velocity, don't provide traffic separation, and don't even know about terrain or procedures.

1.) is ATC in FSX better?? I mean: in FS9 it is quite bad as davysims describes very, very correctly. Makes it sense to switch to FSX with respect to ATC??

2.) My solution: from time to time one has to simply overrule ATC and decide to (i) switch to VFR for approaches 'cause procedures are missing (for example LOWI which is highly intersting in VFR) or (ii) keep on going IFR but ignoring ATC with the knowledge that ATC will pick u up a littler bit later again (for example: one of those go-arounds - I land anyway, than, after leaving the runway asking for clearnce for taxing to the gate and ATC does not have any problems).

3.) what I would like to know: recently I thought about buying PDMG 737-600/700 with the FMC. There, as far as I understand, are STAR/SID included for the FMC. Originally ATC in FS9 cannot work with STAR/SID, right? So how is that included than?? Let me give u an example: having planned a flight from A to B still standing at the gate I don't have a clue about the clearance and what RWY to use. So in reality I get the IFR clearance by ATC and afterwards I get the information about the runway and the SID. How is that done with PDMG for example (or any other STAR/SID)? ... Same for the approach ... Is that really working fine?

1.  ATC was not changed at all for FSX, except the color of the box.

2.  Sometimes cancelling IFR and continuing on your own is easier. (or necessary)

3.  What your aircraft can do and what ATC will do is two different things.  The equipment in the aircraft may be programmed with the SID/STARs, but ATC will just keep doing the same ole thing.

Hahahaha. ATC Cleared me, a Qantas 747, an AA 757, an Air Canada 767 and a BA 777 on the same runway. We were all in a range of 3 miles and I said screw you and landed on the departure runway and the others touched down, stopped and took off again. The AA 757 was the victor! Scared to death lil ol me had a near miss with a SWA 737-700 NC. D'Oh. ;D

I was in Istanbul in a 747 and when I got clearence to takeoff I saw a 777 landing in front of my face...That was scary. I agree with F..Sometimes I ignore the ATC and this is good for my nerves.

I have a couple of aircraft that have working FMC'S and they have all of the sids/stars in there data base. What this does is to allow you to program you flight plan actually using them but nine out of ten times you will have to ignore ATC. What I try to do is make my flight plan using the FMC and then make notes of the way points I use. I then create a flight plan using the flight planner and use the same way points I used in the FMC this is one way to get ATC to use the SIDS but when it comes to STARS you are out of luck atc will ignore them completely in most cases. 8-)

... what makes me wonder: there are thousands of ad-on programs for mostly every kind of aircraft, scenery what so ever. On the other side most people complain about the bad ATC - is there any ad-on available to really improve and make a mostly authetic ATC?

There is a good side to a primitive ATC. Here's a trick if you are flying IFR and want to ignore ATC for a while without the controller canceling your flight plan. Just wait until they hand you off to another controller and don't contact that new controller. This way you won't loose your ATC services or flight plan. A controller is there any time you want to continue with your IFR flight. I use this sometimes on long flights where I want to put it on AP during cruise but still want an IFR approach and landing.

Sort of.

There's AI Smooth which keeps a better spacing between AI traffic and directs them into a holding pattern if the pattern gets too full.

Hint to add on developers: I'd surely pay for an add on like "Real ATC for FS2004" or something of the sort.

LOL, last night, I was inbound ILS runway 4L in newark airport (new jersey) in a crj-700 continental express, and I had just been cleared to land, so then I just switched to the aerial view so I can see NYC in the distance, and then I just hear a random noise, and a Boeing 737-700 southwest was literally flying right next to me, i was like
