miltestpilot,
No biggie!

your card and system should have no problem setting as follows:
Save a copy of your current FS9.cfg file in a safe place. Then DELETE the FS9.cfg file being used by the sim.
Start Flight Simulator. You will be starting clean with a new FS9.cfg file Let the sim boot and go to the SETTINGS area. Make the following changes:
Attention: miltestpilot. Any chance those settings you gave Jayhawk Jake will work for me? I have FS9 now and want to tweak it as well.

I think you are going to have to realize your video card and processor are not up to FS9 standards, much less FSX. I dont want to be the bearer of bad news but the x300 will hardly get out of the gate when it comes to FS9.
Is that a x300 viceo card? Or a x300 onboard video chip? That also makes a difference too.

To my knowledge, it's an x300 video card. I can't find anything about the onboard video chip. While I understand that my processor comes up short (3.4GHz is recommended), I would think that it would handle FS9. It feels less demanding in terms of graphics and it doesn't hiccup like FSX. However, I will look into what you have suggested.
Thanks.

I picked it up today and im very impressed.

Nick-
My laptop has various modes, all accessible with a button on top. When it is plugged in it always defaults to High Performance, so when I play the sim it's fine. The only issue is that it gets VERY hot, even with a chillpad that I have under it. It gets so hot that the keyboard has actually warped a little, but its not noticable unless you look at it at eyelevel, so until something stops working I'm not concerned (I could probably mail it back to Asus and get the keyboard replaced if it got too bad).
I will probably get FE at some point, but it is still kinda expensive...and FSUIPC is also quite pricey. I can live with the performance issues for now, but I want to fix them eventually.
It sounds like you have the external ability to change the power management, nice feature
But the heat you have posted about is excessive if it is damaging the case. That is why I posted that laptops were never designed to do continuious high performance work and it sounds like you may be pushing that unit a weeeeee bit too much.
FE, set up as miltest posted, should fix your cloud stutter problem
Here is the line that somebody mentioned on another forum somewhere:
CloudsImpostorRingRadius=24000.000000
Whatever it is it DOES work
