Under Linux there are emulators (that if Linux in on a Intel machine aren't all that difficult to make) that allow to install a windows virtual machine (from installation disks) in which you can use even FS, though the performance drop on a demanding software like FS might be severe. If you really have only Linux, it's better you remain with X-plane. It's not at all bad. It's not pretty like the various FS releases yet, but works well enough.
There's but one real cure for human stupidity. It's called DEATH.
