Found it under FS9.CFG the only format I didn't try because I have never seen it like that.

And I still don't have a path.

:(You get that on the big jobs :(

Why doesn't someone just tell him where it is?

"C:\Documents and Settings\(Your User name)\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9\fs9.CFG"

If you still can't see it, you need to select tools from any window menu, go to folder options and click the view tab......

Now under hidden files and folders,  put a mark in Show hidden files and folders and then UNTICK Hide extensions for known file types.

This isn't your fault, it's Microsofts joke on the world to make computing extremely confusing for everyone.

DONE THAT,ain't there ;D

Neither is a lot of other stuff--everytime I use this thing something changes and if you look it is FS9.CFG.

The last time I searched it was fs9.cfg that got a result.

My bottom line simply is this-------I'll laugh it off as a MS thing or as a system failure, either way these things are designed and built by HUMANS so expect errors and heaps of them.

I think I'll go and have a nice lay down now. ;D

It's there alright, or at least it should be.

Every time FS9 shuts down, it writes the fs9.cfg to that directory so that it starts up with your settings next time it runs. This can be easily tested by setting a particular setting, perhaps like realistic fuel mixture to ON or OFF, (just something different to what you have now) and restart the game. If your setting is as you left it, then the fs9.CFG file was truly written to that location, as the location for the file write is hard coded into the game.

Read my last post again, and do exactly as I instructed, if you are still having problems then I suggest you get a competent person to install the OS and the game, because there is definitely something amiss.

WinXP was designed on the assumption that if file handling was made "easy" through automation that people would no longer need to learn file handling conventions. The sad reality is that now, learning file handling, (an absolutely essential skill, regardless of whatever Microsoft had in mind) is made even more confusing, because of all the hidden directories and files.

The bottom line is this, you need to become proficient at file handling and this will involve learning to set your windows to allow viewing of all files, with perhaps the exception of protected operating system  files until you are absolutely proficient.

If you are adept at file handling, I apologise and we must assume a basic flaw in the OS or the game for some reason. In that case you may need new software. This is unlikely.

The next time you re-install windows, do it offline and do not connect to the internet, get the drivers installed for mainboard, sound and video etc and then install FS9. Test it. At this stage you will know for certain if it is a software flaw.

Cheers.

I don't know what's up with your system but the case shouldn't make any difference. Make sure you set the folder & search options to show hidden files & folders.

Cheers all. Lets kill this because it is a system thing. I won't go into great detail but things are missing all over, especially when you KNOW you have installed them and go back later to an empty folder.

New PC?

Thanks all for your help.

And,yes,Hagar it should not make a difference and that puzzled me.

This sounds very much like a virus at work. You said you were hit by one. Maybe it's still causing problems even after you reformatted the drive.

Hi,Hagar. I was in the early stages of loading when I got hit so I'm not sure what is going on.

I deleted and repartitioned, the virus could not have affected anything else. At the moment I am looking at all my folders and files with respect to redownloading.

It is not such a drama as it sounds although I'll lose a lot but the important parts are not corrupt or are available. Just takes time but I'll sort it.

Many thanks,
Col.
