Gear Problems.

Postby gilesh » Fri Dec 23, 2005 4:20 am

:o Hi, When I brake on the runway the whole of the the front landing gear seems to cruch down on its self untill you have stopped braking. It also does this when I am just taxing and put on the brakes. I was wondering if there is a way to fix this. Thanks for your help.  :o

Not sure what you mean by crunching down, but compression under braking, i.e. the nose dipping is normal. It is the wieght  transfer from the braking action onto the oleo (shock absorber). The same happens in a car. Brake and the nose of the car dips.

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

To a certain extent this is normal. The strut supporting most landing gear are much like the suspension on your car, and compress under the weight of the aircraft. Like in a car, braking causes a weight shift.

If you think the compression is excessive while braking there are a couple of possibilities:

1-Your braking to hard in relation to your speed/gross weight while taxiing or rolling out.  As you cant dynamically control brake pressure in FS, try tapping the brakes until your speed is reduced .

2- The landing gear is not configured properly (aircraft.cfg file-[contact points] section). If you would specify the aircraft someone could check it out. Or if you prefer you could try to edit yourself. Refer to a similar default aircraft's 'aircraft.cfg' file for the location and definition of parameters that control the landing gear strut dynamics.

Here's an example of braking, is this what you mean?

Normal taxi run

Gentle braking (tapping the brake key repeatedly)

Hard braking (holding the brakes down)

Whoops!
