My only concerns about FS10 is that it will not be backward-compatable with the freeware we have now, and that it will need a super computer built by NASA to run it.

That wouldn't bother me if the simulation was done on a real globe with real poles, allowing great circle navigation.

Hey, thanks for the info you guys............

Well, one way i'm happy because microsoft has got plenty of time to work on the next flight simulator (approx. 3 years). So it should be a BOMB :o (not just an upgrade).

Secondy, i guess it would be a wise choice not to go in for any hardware updates as of now. Wait until you hear from microsoft, save a million and get the best the market has to offer.

So, there you go........an excuse to upgrade your system to a super computer. ::)

Vohy,

P.S - I am assuming FS10 requires a fast and upto date super computer.

Hate to say it... but that is probably a "given".  It already takes a he## of a machine already to run fs2004 with everything .....and I mean EVERYTHING set at the maximum possible setting to get the totality that the designers had in mind.

My thoughts are that to solve many of the "issues" ... they are going to have to completely re-think HOW the sim works at a very core level.  So backwards compatibility may have to go .... so that progress can be made.

Not sure how fast I will make the leap again into a new version.... it took so much to get THIS version running reasonably near the Microsoft marketing hype.

best,

If thats the case, then they really should do something like X-plane for the flight dynamics.

I guess some don't understand the amount of programming goes into a flight sim ::)

Well, to be 100% honest - I guess no. But a multi billion $ company with the world at its disposle and you are telling me in two years they can't produce a sim. It's just like their latest version of windows. I hope like that it is a revolutionary improvement. ::) Who knows - it may be worth the long wait.

took almost 4 years for GT4 and that ended up being a bust. Once again, MS have never given a time table and people have been spoiled by the fact that it has been 2 year gaps.

Let's not for get the CFS3 disaster with its lack of compatability with previous editions. I'm shure MS hasn't.

Perhaps there can be some sort of legacy compatability for at least FS-9 aircraft if the flight model is improved

Anyway, there are many, many things that can be vastly improved while stiil maintaining compatability.

Of course, many third pary add-ons will have to be upgraded but, this is a given no matter what the changes. Some add-ons may even become obsolete!

Personally. I think it wiil be worth the wait! :)

Well this is good to hear. The only problem I can forsee is the cash issue. Not the game cost, as any of us will be willing to drop the $50 for the game with out even thinking about it, but I'm thinking of all the PC modding thats going to need to happen to acomidate the game like its suppost to.

My other concern is how accurate the Aircraft CFGs are. Hell I mean without an edited CFG the 747 will act like a 737.

Basicly my only requests are that we get
1. Improoved Aircraft
2. Massive jumps on AI and ATC
3. A better Real world wether system (weve all set it to this, and sat in our hometown thinking "Its sunny and 70 here, why is it snowing in the game?"
4. An improoved Flight envirment. (VFR mesh, water textures, clouds, dawn / dusk etc)

Well start saving for the X800 / X850 and 6800GTs

What the heck is a "de facto Flight Simulator"?

de facto = the fact they are actually making the game from word of mouth (or in this case, E-news report)

I hope better weather & ATC. I love their improvements, but there is much to improve.

and I'm still waiting on better taxi lines... including the roadways.

So let me get this straight....for the last year, any time someone mentioned "Will there be a 2006", the response was generally "As long as there is one, I don't care what else happens"....then they announce that they are, in fact, releasing it, just late.  And we're all hacked off about it?

Seems to me that with a chance of no game coming out at all, we should be appreciative of the fact that we're getting one...it's just a little late.

I don't think it is late, if it was called FS2005 and was released in '06 that would be late.

I won't be upset if it is not backward compatible with addons from the current versions of FS, it would be a step forward. We could "start with a clean slate" so to speak.

And face it, it will need a kick ass computer to run well, just like FS9 does now.

1. Improoved Aircraft

Not strictly necessary IMO, raise your hand you who're still using default FS9 airplanes.

Even freeware planes are sometime a LOT better than stock ones

2. Massive jumps on AI and ATC

Allow me to add my voice to the choir.

3. A better Real world wether system (weve all set it to this, and sat in our hometown thinking "Its sunny and 70 here, why is it snowing in the game?"

Let our prayers be heard that M$ learns from add-ons like ActiveSky and tries (TRIES) to do something similarly good.

4. An improoved Flight envirment. (VFR mesh, water textures, clouds, dawn / dusk etc)

And, may I add, they trash the actual flat-world env-map adopting FINALLY a sphere world env-map with REAL north and south poles. A higher than 4 max number of engines per aircraft. And might be a good idea to implement at least vectorial thrust among the flight dynamics upgrades.
